CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA: Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley has weighed in on the Manhattan jury verdict against former President Trump in the E Jean Carroll defamation trial, reported The Hill.

The federal jury of seven men and two women on Friday, January 26, ordered Trump to pay $83.3 million in damages for the defamatory remarks he made against the Elle Magazine columnist in 2019. The ex-president insulted Carroll by denying her claims of him sexually assaulting her in the 1990s.

Responding to the verdict, Haley wrote on X, "Donald Trump wants to be the presumptive Republican nominee, and we're talking about $83 million in damages. We're not talking about fixing the border. We're not talking about tackling inflation."

"America can do better than Donald Trump and Joe Biden," she added.

Haley is the only remaining GOP opponent against Trump in the Republican primaries for the 2024 presidential election after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis dropped out of the race before the New Hampshire primary.

The former South Carolina governor decided to continue in the race despite her 11-point defeat in the Granite state on January 23. Both candidates will next face each other in Haley's home state, South Carolina, on February 24, where Trump is polling far ahead.

Nikki Haley takes a dig at RNC's decision to declare Trump as presumptive nominee

Haley's social media post on Trump's defamation trial failure also aimed at the Republican National Committee's (RNC) draft resolution to declare him as the party's presumptive nominee.

Seeing the former President's landmark victories in Iowa and New Hampshire, the RNC had plans to declare him as the party's 2024 presumptive nominee while Haley was still in the race.

However, the decision was later withdrawn as Trump himself announced his wish to move forward in the "Old Fashioned" way and finish the process "off AT THE BALLOT BOX."

Despite the remarkable dominance in the polls, the Republican frontrunner has faced defeat in his legal battles. The impact of the Carroll verdict on voter support remains to be seen.

Trump, who left the courtroom before the verdict was declared, later said on Truth Social that he would appeal against what he claims was a "Biden Directed Witch Hunt."
