WASHINGTON, DC: Former President Donald Trump has opposed the Republican National Committee's (RNC) draft resolution to declare him as the party's presumptive nominee, reported The Hill.

In response to the action, the leading GOP candidate expressed his dissent on his social media platform, Truth Social, on Thursday, January 25. He stated his preference to proceed through the electoral process in the "Old Fashioned" way and complete the process "off AT THE BALLOT BOX."

"While I greatly appreciate the Republican National Committee (RNC) wanting to make me their PRESUMPTIVE NOMINEE, and while they have far more votes than necessary to do it, I feel, for the sake of PARTY UNITY, that they should NOT go forward with this plan, but that I should do it the "Old Fashioned" way, and finish the process off AT THE BALLOT BOX," Trump wrote.

Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley is the only opponent against the former President. By winning the Iowa caucus and New Hampshire primary, Trump has cemented his path to potentially getting nominated by the party as the presidential candidate.

However, despite losing to Trump by 11 points in the Granite State, Haley has determined to continue in the race.

Donald Trump allies fear the resolution could anger Republicans

Sources familiar with the matter have told CNN that David Bossie, the RNC committeeman from Maryland who introduced the resolution, withdrew it due to rising concerns among Trump allies.

Moving forward with the resolution while Haley is still in the race could create a perception that the frontrunner was trying to stack the deck with only two states voting.

Trump so far has only secured 32 delegates and Haley 17, and the current RNC rules say the candidate should secure 1215 delegates to become the party nominee officially.

Responding to the RNC resolution, Haley campaign spokesperson Olivia Perez-Cubas stated that the millions of Republican voters should decide the party nominee rather than a bunch of Washington insiders.

"If Ronna McDaniel wants to be helpful, she can organize a debate in South Carolina unless she's also worried that Trump can't handle being on the stage for 90 minutes with Nikki Haley," the spokesperson added.

Amid rising attacks from Trump, Haley is attempting to boost her campaign in her home state, South Carolina, ahead of the primary on February 24, where the former is leading by a wide margin.

Internet reacts to Donald Trump's refusing RNC decision

Netizens are skeptical of Trump coming out against the RNC resolution. Social media reactions claimed the former President was putting words in RNC's mouth and everything happened with his knowledge.

One user remarked, "He was part of this idea anyways but he’s trying to act like he wasn’t — Trump is controlling the entire Republican Party. This is why I refuse to be part of this party."

Another user criticized Trump, saying, "A barely-veiled pitch to the Supreme Court. The faux-benevolence only revealing your angst."

"In other words, you're milking it for the long GRIFTING opportunity.." a third user added. A fourth user stated, "You know that you wanted them to do this."

One response read, "This guys entire life every second is a lie."

"LOL. This guy is a joke! Putting words in the RNC’s mouth to try to look good. Such a," another user said.

Another shared a meme mocking the ex-President.
