LOS ANGELES,  CALIFORNIA: Pierce Brosnan has confessed that he was at fault when he took a path off a trail in a thermal zone in Yellowstone Park.

The ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’ star appeared virtually in a court on Thursday, March 14, 2024, and pled guilty to walking in a restricted region at Mammoth Terraces, which is on the northern side of the national park in November 2023, The Guardian reported.

Pierce Brosnan ordered to pay fines

At the time, the 70-year-old actor was reportedly at the park on a personal visit and was not shooting for any movie.

Following Brosnan’s admission, the court ordered the ‘Die Another Day’ actor to pay a fine of $500 and to give $1,000 as a donation to Yellowstone Forever, a nonprofit organization helping Yellowstone Park.

Pierce Brosnan claims he has ‘utmost respect for and love of our natural world’

The veteran star took to his Instagram account to express his regret over his mistake. He wrote, “As an environmentalist, I have the utmost respect for and love of our natural world.”

He continued, “However, I made an impulsive mistake - one that I do not take lightly - when entering a thermal area covered in snow in Yellowstone National Park to take a photograph."

“I did not see a ‘No Trespassing’ sign posted that warned of danger nor did I hike in the immediate area. I deeply regret my transgression and offer my heartfelt apologies to all for trespassing in this sensitive area.”

Internet hails Pierce Brosnan for 'owning’ up to his mistake

People stood by Pierce Brosnan online after he admitted to visiting the restricted area in Yellowstone Park. One social media user commented on his post, “Integrity and sincerity always win….so does owning our mistakes. Many world leaders would do well to take a leaf from your book. Respect. 💛”

The second one wrote, “Thank you for making a public apology. Hopefully, it will keep other people from making the same mistake.”

The third user shared, “We all make mistakes, and kudos to you for owning it & apologizing. Knowing how committed you are to the environment no-one would seriously believe you would intentionally do anything to harm it - unfortunately due to your celebrity status the media decided to make a big thing of it. If someone not in the public eye had done the same thing no-one would have blinked an eye. Onwards & upwards ❤️👍.”

One person commented, "As an avid hiker, I certainly understand the signage dilemma: Sometimes we turn our eyes in a direction only to miss an important sign. These things happen to the best of us…"
