WASHINGTON, DC: Former President Donald Trump threatened his successor, Joe Biden, over the indictment of a Democartic lawmaker on conspiracy and bribery charges, according to Raw Story.

The Department of Justice on May 3 indicted Rep Henry Cuellar and his wife, Imelda Cuellar, for allegedly receiving $600,000 in bribes from an Azerbaijani fossil fuel company and a bank in Mexico from 2014 to 2021.

"The bribe payments were allegedly laundered, pursuant to sham consulting contracts, through a series of front companies and middlemen into shell companies owned by Imelda Cuellar, who performed little to no legitimate work under the contracts," said the DOJ's statement, according to NBC News.

DOJ further accused Cuellar of agreeing to leverage his position to influence US foreign policy in favor of Azerbaijan and to help the bank by influencing legislative activity, pressuring US Executive Branch officials to take beneficial measures.

Trump's take on Henry Cuellar's indictment

In a Truth Social post on Sunday, May, the GOP presumptive nominee accused Biden of being behind the Texas Democrat's indictment.

"Biden just Indicted Henry Cuellar because the Respected Democrat Congressman wouldn't play Crooked Joe's Open Border game," Trump wrote without any evidence to prove the Biden administration politically targeted the Democrat and his wife.

"He was for Border Control, so they said, 'Let's use the FBI and DOJ to take him out!' This is the way they operate," the ex-president added.

Trump concluded his post with a threat towards Biden. "They're a bunch of DC Thugs, and at some point they will be paying a very big price for what they have done to our Country. CROOKED JOE BIDEN IS A THREAT TO DEMOCRACY!"

Trump spewing allegations against the Biden administration regarding the indictment of a Democrat could be considered ironic since he had previously said the current administration favored people from their own party over Republicans.

Furthermore, the former president had threatened Biden previously over multiple issues. For instance, in January, Trump declared his intention to indict his presidential opponent if elected in November in the event of him not receiving presidential immunity.

Similarly, in his recent interview with Time Magazine, the real estate mogul reiterated Biden and his family could face criminal prosecution once he leaves the White House. This threat also stemmed from the possibility of the Supreme Court not granting Trump presidential immunity.

Cuellar is charged with 14 counts, including conspiracy, wire fraud, bribery, and money laundering. In a statement after the indictment, the congressman denied all the charges and defended himself and his wife.
