SEATTLE, WASHINGTON: Richard Sherman found himself in headlines over the weekend after Seattle police arrested the former Seahawks All-Pro cornerback on suspected DUI charges early Sunday morning, February 25, as per Daily Mail.

Sherman was pulled over for speeding before failing voluntary sobriety testing, prompting his booking into a correctional facility pending arraignment.

Richard Sherman told officers he consumed two margaritas before getting behind the wheel that night

Sherman was pulled over by Washington State Patrol at around 2 am for speeding on Interstate 405 in Renton. According to the incident report, he was driving at 79 mph in a 60 mph zone.

When troopers approached his vehicle, they observed signs of him being intoxicated, which led Sherman to admit he had consumed two margaritas before getting behind the wheel.

While he refused a breathalyzer test, Sherman did undergo field sobriety tests. Based on those results and his driving conduct, he was arrested on DUI charges.

The 35-year-old was transported to the King County Correctional Facility and his initial court hearing is scheduled for Monday. Prosecutors are expected to ask the judge to set bail in the case.

Richard Sherman's decorated NFL career is now stained by off-field issues

Sherman's arrest marks his second run-in with law enforcement in recent years. The Stanford graduate enjoyed an enormously successful 11-year NFL career as one of the league's top defensive backs before retiring in 2021.

However, his reputation has been tarnished by recent off-field missteps.

Sherman became a Seattle sports icon during his six seasons starring for the Seahawks defense. The brash, big-play cornerback was a leader of the formidable 'Legion of Boom' secondary that propelled the franchise’s first Super Bowl win.

At his peak in the early 2010s, Sherman earned three first-team All-Pro selections and five Pro Bowl nods. His play during the Seahawks' dominant Super Bowl run following the 2013 season cemented his legacy as one of the all-time great cornerbacks.

In March of 2022, Sherman pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor charges stemming from an early morning incident in July 2021. The ex-NFL player was accused of driving while intoxicated and crashing his car in a construction zone before attempting to break into his in-laws' home in Seattle.

Subsequently, he was charged with criminal trespass, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. Sherman received a suspended 90-day sentence after he took the guilty plea.
