Internet in splits as Taylor Swift's absence at Met Gala sparks a meme fest

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Taylor Swift did not attend the 2024 Met Gala, to the disappointment of millions of Swifties.

While it was previously rumored that the 14-time Grammy-winning songstress may give this year’s affair a miss, that didn’t hinder her fans from expecting a surprise appearance from her.

While the fans were left disheartened by her absence, that certainly didn’t let their creativity go astray. In fact, following the event, the creative Swifties invoked a meme fest surrounding the ‘Fortnight’ singer.

The megastar's absence gave rise to a number of memes as the fans missed her appearance on the Met stairs.

One of the most prevalent memes was the announcement of Taylor Swift's arrival followed by the picture of a hilarious object related to the billionaire songstress.

Sharing an edited photo of Taylor wearing an enormous football as a dress, one of the netizens wrote, "Taylor swift has arrived at the #MetGala 😍."

Someone else quipped, "Taylor Swift at the Met Gala! She looks so amazing! 🥹 #MetGala2024."

Sharing an edited clip of a helicopter landing in front of the Met stairs, another fan wrote, "🚨| Taylor Swift touches down at the #MetGala."

"🚨 | Taylor Swift has ARRIVED at the #MetGala !!" wrote another fan while juxtaposing a typewriter, symbolic of Swift's creativity, on the carpet.

Someone else shared a snap of Swift from her Eras Tour performance, writing, "🚨 | TAYLOR SWIFT IS CURRENTLY SWIMMING ON THE MET GALA CARPET."

Just sharing the picture of the empty carpet, someone quipped ironically, "Omg Taylor Swift looks gorgeous on carpet of the met gala tonight 🤩#MetGala."

With a the picture of an aeroplane, someone wrote, "🚨Taylor Swift arrived at the Met Gala🚨."

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce declined invitation

Previously, TMZ reported that both Taylor Swift and her Kansas City Chiefs boyfriend received “individual invitations,” but both of them have reportedly “RSVP’d ‘no.'”

While a reason was not given for her absence, fans speculated that the impending commencement of her Eras Tour concert in Paris on May 9 may be the reason.

Before the Met Gala festivities in the evening, the esteemed organizer and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour sat for an interview with Today host Jenna Bush Hager, per The Independent.

During the interview, Wintour played it coy when asked about Swift attending the event. She said, “I hope she comes and enjoys the exhibit.”
