Washington, DC: Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) criticized US Sen John Fetterman, a fellow Democrat from Pennsylvania, for trolling a heated exchange in the House of Representatives on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, May 17.

According to Fox News, Fetterman shared his jibe in light of a shouting match that took place on the floor of the House on Thursday, during a late-night House Oversight markup for a resolution to hold Biden administration Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress.

Congress members involved in heated exchange on House floor

Several representatives, including AOC, Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga), and Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) were involved in the verbal fight in the House of Representatives, reported Fox.

Crockett reportedly asked Greene, during the markup, "Do you know what we’re here for?" to which the response was, "I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you’re reading."

Ocasio-Cortez found MTG's remark "absolutely unacceptable," and immediately sought to have it taken down, calling for a point of order. When Greene asked her, "Are your feelings hurt?", she replied, "Oh girl, baby girl! Don’t even play!"

John Fetterman's tweet and AOC's response

Taking to X, Fetterman shared the news of the ruckus, writing, "In the past, I’ve described the US House as The Jerry Springer Show. Today, I’m apologizing to The Jerry Springer Show."

The show which he referred to is listed on Apple TV as "Loaded with bleeped profanity and guests who aren't afraid to embarrass themselves on national TV, ‘Jerry Springer’ features a host who is the anti-Oprah, aiming his show squarely at viewers who rubberneck at traffic accidents."

AOC was quick in her response, retweeting the Senator's post and writing, "I understand you likely would not have stood up for your colleague and seem to be confused about racism and misogyny being a 'both sides' issue. But I stand up to bullies, instead of becoming one."

"And to the women of Pennsylvania: I’d stand up for you too. Enjoy your Friday," she added.

Internet compares House tussle with 'parking lot fight'

Netizens were supportive of Fetterman's comments, as an X-user wrote of the chaos on the House floor, "Fight at the local Walmart parking lot."

"No one was bullying anybody. AOC got butthurt over comments she should of stayed out of. Fetterman called it," stated another.

"AOC would definitely qualify for Jerry Springer," jibed a third.

"She’s the biggest bully in the party, with her little cheer section….literally calling themselves 'the squad', like a click of 'mean girls'," commented a fourth.

"Really dragged the prestige through the mud," observed a fifth.
