WASHINGTON, DC: Washington was witness to an extraordinary spectacle on Thursday, May 16, as a congressional hearing descended into chaos, with Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Marjorie Taylor Greene engaging in a heated verbal altercation that overshadowed the intended purpose of the proceedings, as reported by Fox News.

What began as a contempt hearing for Attorney General Merrick Garland quickly spiraled into a firestorm of personal insults and partisan disputes, leaving decorum in ruins and prompting widespread condemnation online.

The hearing, initially called to hold Garland accountable for not following a subpoena, swiftly turned into a heated argument between the two divisive lawmakers.

The hostilities started when Greene took a jab at Jasmine Crockett, remarking, "I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you're reading." Ocasio-Cortez swiftly intervened, denouncing Greene's remarks as an unacceptable attack on Crockett's physical appearance.

"How dare you attack the physical appearance of another person... move her words down," Ocasio-Cortez demanded.

Greene remained defiant, responding, "Are your feelings hurt?" prompting Ocasio-Cortez to fire back, "Oh girl, baby girl! Don't even play!" The tension escalated as Ocasio-Cortez sought to have Greene's words removed from the record, a procedural move known as 'taking down' statements deemed out of order.

Amid calls for order from Chairman James Comer, the hearing was temporarily suspended to address the controversy surrounding Greene's remarks.

Ocasio-Cortez demanded a sincere apology, asserting, "We're not going to do a smarmy apology. She has to actually apologize. And that needs to be up to Ms. Crockett as well."

However, Greene refused to apologize, instead doubling down by insulting Ocasio-Cortez's intelligence. This led the Democratic Congresswoman to seek the removal of those remarks as well. In a heated exchange with Jamie Raskin, who urged Greene to apologize, she declared, "You will never get an apology out of me."

In the aftermath of the chaos, Crockett took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her frustration: "So MTG wanted to talk about my appearance in COMMITTEE?! This is what happens when mentally deficient people who can't read and follow rules or just don't give a damn… somehow end up in CONGRESS!"
