PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA: Senator John Fetterman recently stirred up a firestorm of controversy by surprisingly supporting Governor Ron DeSantis' ban on lab-grown meat in Florida, as per Breitbart.

The Pennsylvania Democrat's remarks, which he acknowledged caused him deep discomfort, drew intense backlash from the internet, with users criticizing him for aligning with DeSantis and opposing lab-grown meat.

On Thursday, May 2, Fetterman took to X (formerly Twitter), stating, "Pains me deeply to agree with Crash-and-Burn Ron, but I co-sign this." He was referring to a screenshot of an article titled "DeSantis signs bill banning lab-grown meat."

Fetterman further elaborated, "As a member of @SenateAgDems and as some dude who would never serve that slop to my kids, I stand with our American ranchers and farmers."

The Hill had earlier reported that DeSantis signed a bill banning lab-grown meat in Florida, with the governor claiming it was a move to "fight back against the global elite's plan to force the world to eat meat grown in a petri dish or bugs to achieve their authoritarian goals."

The bill effectively criminalizes the manufacture, sale, possession, or distribution of lab-grown meat within the state of Florida. Notably, senators in the state had previously worked on various measures to block lab-grown meat from being served in school lunches.

Bill Gates supports increased usage of lab-grown meat

The debate over lab-grown meat goes beyond politics, touching upon larger conversations about sustainability and dietary choices. Supporters of lab-grown meat, such as Bill Gates, highlight its ability to reduce the carbon footprint linked to conventional animal farming.

In an interview with MIT Technology Review, Gates expressed, "For Africa and other poor countries, we’ll have to use animal genetics to dramatically raise the amount of beef per emissions for them."

Subsequently, he remarked, "I do think all rich countries should move to 100% synthetic beef. You can get used to the taste difference, and the claim is they’re going to make it taste even better over time. Eventually, that green premium is modest enough that you can sort of change the [behavior of] people or use regulation to totally shift the demand."

Internet slams John Fetterman for backing Ron DeSantis' ban on lab-grown meat

The internet swiftly responded to Fetterman backing DeSantis' ban on lab-grown meat, with a wave of criticism directed at the senator. One X user pleaded, "Please just change parties at this rate."

Another user commented, "John Fetterman is an authoritarian, just like Ron DeSantis, and statements like this only serve to further prove that point. He’s a Republican in Democrat clothing, and is an enemy of the people."

A user asserted, "This is the true litmus test. Anyone who even vaguely opposes the idea of lab grown meats is a psychopath and should be removed from ever holding power." Another criticized Fetterman's support for the ban, bluntly stating, "'I wouldn’t want this, let’s make it illegal.' Senator you are retarded."

One user simply remarked, "It's incredible how wrong you are on literally everything." Another user expressed disappointment, saying, "Every day, it's a new disappointment from this guy." One labeled Fetterman's actions as the "Disappointment of the century," while another user wrote, "It's still not going to save your job."
