Trump mocked as he says E Jean Carroll was 'forced to change her story' about 'that' Donna Karen dress
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: In a barrage of more than 40 posts on Truth Social, former President Donald Trump attacked writer E Jean Carroll on Monday, January 22.
The onslaught came just hours after the defamation trial against Trump experienced an unexpected pause due to a juror's illness.
Trump targets Carroll with over 40 posts
The 45th POTUS's social media blitzkrieg consisted of over 40 posts within an hour, targeting Carroll with excerpts from her media interviews, alleged Facebook posts, and original content from Trump himself, disputing Carroll's claims about their past encounters.
Many of the posts featured old social media content and articles related to Carroll, including a 2011 post where she engaged followers in a game of "boff/marry/strangle," choosing Ryan Seacrest, Dick Cheney, and Steve Jobs.
Accusing Carroll of inconsistency, Trump asserted that she altered her narrative regarding the alleged rape in the mid-1990s at Bergdorf Goodman. He claimed Carroll "doesn’t know the day, month, season, year, or decade - because it did not happen".
Trump, who has previously been found liable for defamation and sexual assault in a separate lawsuit filed by Carroll, labeled the ongoing trial as a "witch hunt".
"E Jean Carroll was forced to change her story on the 'Monica Lewinsky-type' dress. She originally claimed that the 'event' happened in 1994, and that she wore the Donna Karan dress on that day," the former president fumed.
"The problem is that New York Times Fact Checkers found the dress wasn’t even made by Donna Karan until long after 1994. The truth is that she doesn’t know the day, month, season, year, or decade - because it did not happen. End this Witch Hunt now!" he added.
Despite the trial delay due to a sick juror, Trump is expected to testify later this week. However, his attacks on Carroll outside the courtroom remain unregulated, as there are no speech restrictions beyond the court's confines.
If Trump makes specific statements while testifying, denying knowledge of Carroll, refuting sexual assault claims, or challenging defamation accusations, he could potentially face contempt of court since he's already been found liable for some of those charges, per Forbes.
Carroll is seeking over $10 million in compensatory damages and unspecified punitive damages from Trump. The trial's focus is solely on determining the monetary compensation owed to Carroll after Trump was previously found liable for defamation and sexual assault in a separate trial.

The defamation trial stems from Trump's 2019 comments, where he denied ever meeting Carroll and dismissed her rape allegations as untrue. Carroll filed a defamation lawsuit, claiming emotional distress and harm to her reputation.
Delays ensued due to legal disputes, with Trump arguing immunity based on his presidential capacity during the remarks.
In a separate 2022 lawsuit, Carroll sued Trump for similar statements, utilizing the New York Adult Survivors Act.
A May 2023 jury ruling found Trump liable for sexually abusing Carroll but rejected the claim of rape, ordering him to pay $5 million in damages, Forbes reported.
