Billboard restricts Nicki Minaj's 100 fans contest promotion
Earlier this week, Minaj announced on social media that she would be holding a contest where 100 fans who provided proof of purchasing all versions of her new album 'Pink Friday 2' would get to choose bonus tracks for the deluxe edition.
However, shortly after sharing details of the contest promotion, Minaj stated that Billboard had contacted her warning they would revoke some of her album sales numbers as a result of her posts about the fan contest.
In a series of posts on X, an aggrieved Minaj told her fans, “Been discussing my 100 barbz contest for months. They said billboard reached out to say they gon take away sales for me telling y’all about the 100 barbz thing.”
“You can give out millions in cashapp money tho. Lol. So barbz, me asking you to show PROOF of something that was already DELIVERED OR PURCHASED IS AGAINST THE RULES,” she added mockingly.
Nicki Minaj accuses Billboard of unfairly targeting her
The revealing of Billboard’s threats prompted further outrage from Minaj, who went on to accuse the outlet of deliberately trying to undermine her success out of spite.
“They changed all those other rules specifically for me yet their own ‘ppl’ are the ones suffering from it & will CONTINUE to. I don’t need any validation. The album is phenomenal & my fans as well as others love it. But they’re soooooooooo angry they couldn’t stop me,” she posted.
The rap star also noted how other musicians have held similar purchase-based contests without facing any pushback from Billboard.
“Threatening me...like what? Huh? You don’t scare me. Take away all the sales y’all want,” Minaj vented, conveying her indignation at Billboard’s warning against her fan engagement promotion.
Nicki Minaj's fans blast ‘openly fraudulent’ Billboard
As Minaj’s revelations spread rapidly online, fans flooded social media to voice criticism over what they saw as clear evidence of Billboard deliberately hampering the success of the hip-hop icon they adore.
One user on X commented, "Yet cashapping a million dollars was fine lol. Billboard is so openly fraudulent," while another echoed, "they don’t want nicki to break them records."
