WASHINGTON, DC: Sen Sherrod Brown (D-OH) released a statement on Friday, July 19, insisting that it was time for President Joe Biden to halt his 2024 reelection campaign and step aside, according to Mediaite.

"I agree with the many Ohioans who have reached out to me. At this critical time, our full attention must return to these important issues. I think the President should end his campaign," wrote the lawmaker in an X (formerly Twitter) post.

In a lengthier statement, the Buckeye State senator added, "Over the last few weeks, I’ve heard from Ohioans on important issues, such as how to continue to grow jobs in our state, give law enforcement the resources to crack down on fentanyl, protect Social Security and Medicare from cuts, and prevent the ongoing efforts to impose a national abortion ban."

He added, "These are the issues Ohioans care about and it is my job to keep fighting for them."

Sen Brown's request for the 81-year-old incumbent came a day after his Senate colleague Jon Tester (D-MT) suggested that it was time for Biden to step down.

Tester wrote, "Montanans have put their trust in me to do what is right, and it is a responsibility I take seriously. I have worked with President Biden when it has made Montana stronger, and I’ve never been afraid to stand up to him when he is wrong. And while I appreciate his commitment to public service and our country, I believe President Biden should not seek reelection to another term."

Democrats are growing increasingly concerned about Biden's mental fitness and chances of winning against Donald Trump in the upcoming November election.

Internet reacts as Ohio Sen Sherrod Brown calls for Joe Biden to drop out of the 2024 race

Joe Biden's supporters rallied around him after Sen Sherrod Brown issued a statement urging the incumbent to drop his 2024 reelection bid.

One remarked, "Imagine being president of a party filled with cowards and backstabbers. We won't forget your actions," and another said, "Stop trying to commit a coup against Biden."

"Sure, have candidates bash each other just a few weeks away from the election. Stupid," stated a person, while someone else expressed, "It’s cowardly to say this without telling us the plan to replace him. Kamala Harris is the only other person on the ticket that voters selected. Endorse her now, or we can assume you’re being led by donors calling for an open primary to blow up the ticket."

"Translation: My donors have threatened me and I have no b***s," fumed another person, whereas one more asked, "Question: Since Biden won his primaries, why should he end his campaign?"
