NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Former President Donald Trump opened up in support of House Speaker Mike Johnson as some of the far-right MAGA supporters of House GOP have been increasingly calling for his ouster on Monday, April 22.

The strongest voice against Johnson is that of Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga), one of Trump's strongest allies, who filed a motion for the Speaker's dismissal back in February and has repeatedly called for his resignation over social media. The motion has later been supported by Rep Thomas Massie (R-Ky) and Rep Paul Gosar (R-Az).

After the House passed the $95 billion foreign aid package, which included $61 billion for Ukraine, Greene said in an interview on Fox News, "Mike Johnson’s leadership is over. He needs to do the right thing to resign and allow us to move forward in a controlled process. If he doesn’t do so, he will be vacated."

Speaking with radio host John Fredericks on Monday, Trump said, "Well, look, we have a majority of one, OK? It’s not like he can go and do whatever he wants to do. I think he’s a very good person. You know, he stood very strongly with me on NATO when I said NATO has to pay up … It’s a tough situation when you have. I think he’s a very good man. I think he’s trying very hard. And again, we’ve got to have a big election."

On the topic of foreign aid, the presumptive Republican nominee commended Johnson for his role in securing as part of the package that Ukraine would receive more than $9 billion of economic assistance in the form of "forgivable loans."

"We’ve got to election some people in Congress, much more than we have right now. We have to elect some good senators. Get rid of some of the ones we have now, like Romney and others. And we have to have a big day, and we have to win the presidency. If we don’t win the presidency, I’m telling you I think our country could be finished… We are absolutely a country in decline," he added.

Netizens were divided as Trump and Greene appeared on opposing sides in this rare instance.

"Love Trump, but @RepMTG is right," wrote a user, as another echoed, "Trump needs to stay put of this one. Johnson gotta go."



 



 

"If Marjorie keeps trying to oust him, then even the slowest should realize that she doesn't work for us," shared a third.



 

"I don't like his actions lately but it would be a bad move on their part to get rid of him right now," mentioned a fourth.



 

"Trouble in paradise," touted a fifth user, as a sixth jibed, "We haven't seen such a chaos in a political party."
