COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA: On Thursday, February 8, Republican presidential contender Nikki Haley sought that President Joe Biden take a mental competency test “immediately".

The 388-page Department of Justice report which claimed that the 81-year-old incumbent had "diminished faculties" and poor memory, prompted the former South Carolina governor to respond on X, formerly known as Twitter.

According to DailyMail, during conversations with investigators looking into the sitting commander-in-chief's handling of classified documents, Biden seemed confused about when he served as Vice President and when his eldest son Beau had passed away.

What did Haley say about DOJ report into President Biden?

Haley wrote on X, “Joe Biden can't remember major events in his life, like when he was vice president or when his son died. That is sad, but it will be even sadder if we have a person in the White House who is not mentally up to the most important job in the world.”

“Joe Biden should take a mental competency test immediately, and it should be shared with the public,” the 52-year-old Republican added.

On February 15, 2023, Haley announced her candidacy for the presidential election, with a proposal to introduce mental competency tests for politicians aged 75 and above.

This policy has since become the cornerstone of her campaign, as she advocates for generational change in leadership.

The proposed policy is intended to ensure that politicians who are advanced in age are still capable of serving the public and making sound decisions, a concern that is particularly relevant given the complexity of the challenges facing the nation.

By introducing mental competency tests, Haley seeks to promote accountability and transparency in government and to strengthen public trust in the political process.

A former United States ambassador to the United Nations, Haley addressed the crowd during her announcement speech in Charleston, “In the America I see, the permanent politician will finally retire. We'll have term limits for Congress and mandatory mental competency tests for politicians over 75 years old.”

“We won't win the fight for the 21st century if we keep trusting politicians from the 20th century,” Haley said at the time.

“Joe Biden isn't leading from behind, he's not leading at all,” she remarked back then.

Interestingly, during her introductory speech, Haley refrained from addressing former President Donald Trump's age, who’s 77 years old.

Similar to other 2024 GOP presidential candidates, who have since withdrawn from the race, Haley initially handled Trump with caution to prevent alienating the Republican base.

Nevertheless, now that she is the only one standing against the former president, she has made his age a more significant issue in her campaign speeches.

In a tweet posted on Tuesday, she emphasized the concerns she has raised regarding the advanced age and physical and mental fitness of both Biden and Trump.

She tweeted, “We all know 80 year olds who can run circles around us ... and then we know Trump and Biden. We need a president who has the focus and stamina to deal with all the challenges facing our country.”

Internet sides with Haley in her assessment of Biden's mental acuity

People on X agreed with the former South Carolina governor in her stand against career politicians who are well past their prime to deal with contemporary issues and dealings around the world.

One X user remarked: "It's the beginning of BIG changes."

Another user claimed: "They won’t give him a cognitive test. He’ll fail. They protect him."

One user said: "I’d like to see him play tic tac toe! I think it’s a little late for competancy."

One user wrote: "Just keep him away from the nuclear codes."

Finally, this user tweeted: "But she didn’t ask that of Trump when he thought she was Nancy Pelosi."
