Internet slams Dean McDermott as estranged son Jack 'not surprised' by his divorce from Tori Spelling
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Dean McDermott’s estranged son Jack is opening up about the troubled family dynamics of his father's family.
After Tori Spelling filed for divorce from the 57-year-old in March 2024, the Canadian actor’s eldest son Jack was not surprised.
During an interview with Us Weekly, the actor’s estranged son -- who McDermott shares with his ex Mary Jo Eustace -- shared his opinion on the doomed marriage.

Talking to the news outlet, the 25-year-old shared that he was “not surprised” upon learning that the couple were divorcing, per Daily Mail.
Talking about the dynamic between McDermott and Spelling, Jack shared, "I lived with them for a year. I was in San Francisco for five [years] and then I moved to LA. So, while I was looking for houses, I lived with them for a few months.”

He continued, "All I have to say is I wish the kids well. I know Tori’s probably going to be having to do a majority of the parenting now, so I just hope she’s the best mother that she can be.”

Speaking about his half-siblings and McDermott’s five children with the ‘BH90210’ alum, Jack added, “And those kids deserve the world, so I hope that she can give it to them.”
He also opened up about his difficult relationship with his father and shared, "Never say never, but I think that we’re just in a really great place, both of us.”
Nevertheless, he dismissed the speculation of a future reconciliation, saying, “So, I just don’t think in the foreseeable future [a reconciliation is] anything that I want. … It’s not on the top of my list of priorities.”

McDermott was with Jack’s mother from 1993 to 2006. After their relationship ended, the 57-year-old actor married the ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ alum in 2006 and went on to welcome their five children - Liam, 17, Stella, 15, Hattie, 12, Finn, 11, and Beau, seven.
The pair initially sparked divorce rumors in June 2023, when McDermott shared on his social media that he was separating from his wife after 17 years of marriage. He, however, deleted the post on the same day.
Though the crisis was averted for the time being, in March 2024, it was evident that the estranged couple were separated. Spelling filed for divorce from her husband citing “irreconcilable differences’ as the cause, and sought sole physical custody of her children.
Since then, Spelling and McDermott have moved on with their respective new romantic interests - Ryan Cramer and Lily Calo.
Though McDermott has now embraced sobriety, in a few of his past interviews he has blamed his alcoholism as the main reason for the breakdown of his marriage.
Fans are not pleased with Dean McDermott's estrangement with his children
Fans were quick to shade Dean McDermott for failing to do his paternal duties and feared he would do the same with Spelling's children as well.
One of the social media users said on Facebook, "Probably gonna be the same with his kids with Tori. Im not her biggest fan but she's been the parent to the kids. You never see or hear them with him. Hope Jack atleast have relationship with his siblings. I don't blame him one bit for staying away from Dean. Atleast Tori and her Mom are in a better place. Candi knew what he was all about."
Someone else added, "Obviously he is just a lowlife dad and she stayed with him way too long."
Jack received support from fans who commented on other social media channels as well.
"Obviously Jack is embarrassed by it all (mostly the podcasts) and he has every right to be. There are just times you have to remove yourself from certain family members for your own mental health and well being," remarked a social media user.
Another fan supported Jack, saying, "I would hold off, seems volatile."
Someone else added, "Who can blame him... he was deserted at a young age by his Dad moving to California and having 5 kids with Spelling and he knows his Dad has ISSUES."
Another fan observed, "He cares about his 5 half siblings, hopes they do well, & wishes Torie the best as he knows Tori will be their main parent, as she always has been. Dean always seemed like an absentee father."
