NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: 'Morning Joe' panel on MSNBC criticized Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis for her "lack of judgment" regarding the prosecution of former President Donald Trump.

A Georgia judge ruled that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis should not be disqualified from prosecuting the racketeering case against former President Donald Trump and several co-defendants — with one major condition. 'Morning Joe' guest analyst labeled the ruling of March 15 as a "fatal blow" and recommended that Willis should consider "recusing herself" from the case.

Georgia judge's ruling sparks debate on Fani Willis' integrity

In the Georgia election interference case against Trump, the presiding judge ruled that Willis could proceed, but with the condition that Nathan Wade, the lead prosecutor she appointed and had a romantic involvement with, must resign from his position.

“Here we have the most important case brought in the history of the state of Georgia,” co-host Joe Scarborough said, adding, “Yet, the lack of judgment shown here is absolutely stunning.”

Attorney Andrew Weissmann, who frequently contributes to MSNBC, emphasized that the ruling did not indicate any bias against the defendants.

ATLANTA, GEORGIA - NOVEMBER 21: Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis appears before Judge Scott McAfee for a hearing in the 2020 Georgia election interference case at the Fulton County Courthouse on November 21, 2023 in Atlanta, Georgia. Judge McAfee heard arguments as to whether co-defendant Harrison Floyd should be sent to jail for social media posts and comments that potentially targeted witnesses in the trial. McAfee declined to revoke Floyd's bond. Floyd was charged along with former US President Donald Trump and 17 others in an indictment that accuses them of illegally conspiring to subvert the will of Georgia voters in the 2020 presidential election. He said, "Prejudice to the defendants. The judge goes out of his way to say this has nothing to do with it." Scarborough explained, "This lack of judgment, these terrible mistakes made by the DA does not impact the defendants."

Weissmann also pointed out that if there were any indication of a personal relationship between the prosecutor and a witness or the defense counsel involved in handling the evidence, it would significantly alter the situation.

“The idea that she’s prolonging this case – and the judge goes out of his way to say the state has been trying to get to trial. He goes out of his way to say the defendants are not prejudiced one iota about this,” Weissmann said.

“I think this is such a huge body blow, almost a fatal blow to Fani Willis,” Weissmann continued, further adding, “I think the way forward is she has to voluntarily recuse herself."

Weissmann raised doubts about whether Willis "has it in her", the capability to step away from the case and "appoint a chief assistant" to manage it. He also expressed that she "clearly has no credibility with this judge."

He suggested, "If your first interest is this case, I think she needs to remove herself voluntarily and say someone else is going to oversee this case in Georgia. So that whatever happens to her in terms of ethics, it doesn’t taint this case."

Internet community divided over Fani Willis case developments

In response to these current shifts in the Fani Willis case, users of the internet community resorted to social media, voicing their viewpoints.

'If we only had a justice system that could bring the rich and political criminals to justice and not just common men," expressed one viewer.

"Justice system is absolutely for the rich," another viewer voiced,

One comment read, "Then why did she not be dismissed. Thomas nor Cannon recuse themselves. Such a double standard."

Others asked, "I'm sorry Weissman but you're out of your freaking mind! She should try it herself!"

"Why should she recuse herself? The hearing was pointless and unnecessary, to begin with. Then, to go through this whole sideshow...get exonerated...and just walk away? Nope, don't think so," another person asked a similar question.

"I normally look forward to Weissman's responses. Not this time. After ALL OF THAT that she went through JUST to now recuse herself? Nah. Shes gonna go full ballistic on Trump at this point. Get em, Fani," wrote another viewer.

"Why hasn't anyone asked that incompetent judge in Florida to recuse herself?? DA Willis should stay," demanded a viewer.
