NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: MSNBC host Joe Scarborough claimed that crime rates under the Biden administration have been continuously dropping and are lower than they ever were under former president Donald Trump on the Friday, March 29 episode of 'Morning Joe'.

Netizens were, however, in disagreement with Scarborough's claims, and called him out on X.

Joe Scarborough's take on crime rates

"I know that facts don't matter to Donald Trump, but crime rates keep dropping," Scarborough is seen saying on the clip from his show.

"In fact, the rate is lower now than when Donald Trump was in office. Lower than it was in 2020, even slightly lower than it was in Trump's best year - as it pertains to crime - in 2019," he added.

"Murder rates over the past year in the big city that he is constantly harping on is down 20% ... You can go down the list on and on, the most serious crimes way down. And again, the overall crime rate for 2022, the last year recorded, ... is lower, again, than ... Trump's best year in 2019, certainly a lot lower in 2020," the host continued.

"So he'll say what he says, Republicans will keep lying ... and people will whip themselves into a frenzy and say, 'What about crime?' And you can show them the facts," he continues. "... they may not like it but it's a fact. That's how Trump extremists have gotten...," Scarborough said.

"When we talk about crime, it's not as low as I want it to be ... we think the bail issue in New York City is a joke, we think cops are not allowed to do their job enough ... That said, if (we) look at the numbers, Donald Trump is lying when he says (that) crime rates are way up. They are not, they're down. They are lower than when he was president," he further added.

Internet slams Joe Scarborough for his remarks

"When the DAs aren’t prosecuting crimes, the statistics will reflect. Sure violent crimes are down in NYC, that’s why the National Guard is guarding the subway. How simple is the MSNBC viewer?" asked a social media user on X.

"Downgrading 50% of the crime in your city to a misdemeanor instead of a felony doesn't mean the crime rate went down. It just means you're not prosecuting them!" one person wrote.

"All one has to do is refuse to record a crime, and it disappears. Manipulating data is easy. But normal people see the crime happening," wrote one individual.

"This is gaslighting at its finest folks," noted another, before adding, "Pittsburgh just said it will stop responding to certain calls, NY just called the National Guard for their subway. Stores are closing from vandalism, Chicagos mayor is going after car manufacturers because they are easy to steal."

"When crimes aren’t charged and criminals released due to 'reform' prosecution and laws, reported crime statistics go down, as crime rises," one person said.
