PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: A judge ordered former president Donald Trump to pay $382,000 in legal fees to Orbis Business Intelligence, a company founded by Christopher Steele on Thursday, March 7, 2024.

This comes after Trump unsuccessfully sued the company over the scandalous allegations in the former British spy's infamous dossier, also known as the Trump–Russia dossier.

Orbis Business Intelligence claimed they spent $809,000 in legal costs fighting Trump's lawsuit, according to a report by the New York Post.

However, London Judge Karen Steyn ruled out that the amount was too high, given that she dismissed the case after just one day of hearing.

In February, Judge Steyn threw out the former president's case against Orbis, emphasizing “no compelling reasons to allow the claim to proceed to trial.”

What did Christopher Steele’s contentious dossier entail about Donald Trump?

Donald Trump's attorney Hugh Tomlinson informed the judge during an October 2023 hearing that his client's reputation had been damaged by the "shocking and scandalous claims" brought to light by the former MI6 agent's company in the dossier, which claims that Trump had "sex parties" and "golden showers" with Russian prostitutes.

The document further included allegations that Trump solicited bribes from Russian officials.

In his lawsuit, Trump claimed that Orbis had breached data protection regulations in the United Kingdom when it put together the infamous "Steele dossier" and that its baseless allegations were "egregiously inaccurate."

Orbis, a private intelligence firm, was commissioned by the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton's 2016 campaign through intermediaries to research then-Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in preparation for the November 2016 election.

The findings of this investigation were first made public in January 2017 by BuzzFeed News.

In response to a lawsuit filed by Trump, Orbis successfully argued that the findings in the dossier were not intended for public dissemination and were published by BuzzFeed News without the consent of Orbis or its investigator, Christopher Steele.

The lawsuit was also deemed to have been filed late.

Similarly, Trump's lawsuits against Steele, Clinton, and former top FBI officials were dismissed in 2022 by a federal judge in Florida.

The judge rejected Trump's claims that they had conspired to fabricate the Russia investigation, which overshadowed much of his presidency.

However, in 2022, Hillary Clinton and the DNC agreed to pay a $113,000 fine to the Federal Election Commission for violating campaign finance laws by misreporting the amount of money spent on commissioning the dossier.

Internet mocks Donald Trump for incurring yet another legal blow

People on X ridiculed the 77-year-old former POTUS for getting hit with yet another judgment which doesn’t augur well for his already cash-strapped 2024 presidential campaign.

One X user remarked, “Nobody can LOSE better than Trump."

Another user wondered, "In UK if you wilfully refuse to pay the fine, & all other enforcement options have been exhausted, you will be ordered to serve a default term in prison. Could UK send Stinky45 to prison first?"

Another user said, "Trump usually loses his lawsuits but people sue Trump left and right successfully."

One user wrote, "It’s an easy win. Trump has no character."

Another X user remarked, "Karma has shown up once again for Donald. I'm pretty sure there is alot more coming."

One user tweeted, "There is that saying "put your money where your mouth is". Nobody does that better than trump. When he loses enough money, maybe he will keep his mouth shut. Never mind...he can't keep his mouth shut. Silly me."
