PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: The Trump campaign has stated that the Republican National Committee (RNC) will not be providing any financial support toward the legal costs associated with the four pending criminal cases or other civil cases of former President Donald Trump.

In an interview with Fox News Digital on Wednesday, March 6, a spokesperson for the Trump campaign clarified that the RNC would not be contributing any of its funds to mitigate the 77-year-old MAGA strongman’s legal expenses.

"Hard no. Absolutely not. Asked and answered," the Trump campaign spokesperson asserted.

This announcement came a few hours following Nikki Haley’s official exit from the GOP presidential race, making Trump the presumptive nominee ahead of the November general election.

According to a report by CNBC, a growing number of members of the Republican National Committee (RNC) are of the view that the organization should contribute toward the former president's legal bills.

As per one committee member, this group of individuals represents "more than a majority" of those on the committee.

Despite a proposed resolution to prohibit the use of funds for Trump's legal defense, there was insufficient support to consider it at the RNC's spring meeting in Houston this week.

The incumbent chair, Ronna McDaniel, is expected to step down from her role at the end of the committee’s meeting.

This development follows a shortage of funds faced by the RNC at the beginning of the election year compared to the Democratic National Committee (DNC), which reported almost three times the cash-on-hand in its filings with the Federal Election Commission.

Michael Whatley, the current North Carolina GOP chair, has been endorsed by the former president to replace McDaniel, while his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, is set to be co-chair, and senior campaign advisor Chris LaCivita will likely be the chief operating officer.

None of these individuals have expressed plans to cover Trump's legal costs if elected by members of the committee to those respective roles.

Lara Trump, in fact, stated that "every single penny" of RNC’s resources should be directed towards ensuring former President Donald Trump's re-election come November 2024.

Several liberal media organizations reported that during a campaign stop in South Carolina last month, Lara Trump, in support of her father-in-law, asserted her belief that Republican voters would "absolutely" be okay with contributions going towards those legal costs.

However, she admitted that she was not yet acquainted with the RNC's rules on paying such bills. She appeared to be referencing Republicans in general supporting Trump financially, rather than the RNC.

Apparently, Nikki Haley's remarks after Trump endorsed McDaniel's prospective replacements are what gave rise to the idea that Donald Trump would need the Republican National Committee to pay for his legal bills.

During an interview with CNN, the former two-term South Carolina governor stated that Donald Trump intended to use the organization as his personal "piggy bank."

According to FEC documents, it is unclear how Trump's fundraising operation will continue to cover his legal expenses after spending nearly $50 million on them last year.

Furthermore, it is unknown how this enormous outflow, along with the RNC's financial troubles, would impact the former president's chances of winning in November.

If we take into account expenditures in 2022 and 2021, Trump's fundraising entities spent $50 million on his legal defense last year, totaling $90 million.

When we combine that with Trump's fundraising costs, which account for over half of the $282 million he raised, his cash burn rate jumps to 81%, leaving him with only $0.19 for every dollar raised.

The financial woes of the RNC and Trump campaign have piqued the interest of the DNC and Biden campaign, which have a joint fundraising agreement, enabling them to raise money together, providing them with a substantial edge moving into the election season.
