LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: A viral rumor recently spread across social media, claiming that Drew Scott, the popular Canadian reality TV personality from 'Property Brothers', had died.
The claim originated from a YouTube video posted by the channel DOOL Dispatch on November 20, 2024. The video’s caption read, “At 46, ‘Rest in Peace’ Drew Scott. He will forever be in the hearts of millions of fans,” which quickly went viral.
False rumors surrounding Drew Scott's death debunked
The video, which had accumulated over 16,000 views at the time of writing, began by stating, “In the early hours of November 19, 2024, the world received the heartbreaking news of Drew Scott’s tragic passing.”
It continued, claiming that Scott had died in a fatal car accident on Riverside Drive in Ontario.
The video alleged that Scott was driving alone when his car collided with a truck, trapping him unconscious and critically injured. It further suggested that he succumbed to serious head injuries and other wounds.
Additionally, the video claimed that Scott’s twin brother, Jonathan, issued a public statement expressing his "profound grief" over the loss of his brother. However, these claims have been proven to be entirely false.
The video included the disclaimer: "Altered or synthetic content: Sound or visuals were significantly edited or digitally generated," suggesting the claim was intentionally fabricated.
No confirmation of Drew Scott's death from credible source
There has been no official confirmation of Drew Scott’s death from his family, friends, or any credible news outlets.
As recently as November 21, 2024, Drew Scott shared a story on Instagram from the Los Angeles Lakers vs Orlando Magic game at the Crypto Arena, clearly showing that he is alive.
“Teamwork makes the dream work,” Scott wrote in his story from the game.
The DOOL Dispatch video also falsely suggested that tributes and condolences had poured in from fans and colleagues. However, no such messages have surfaced. Neither Drew’s wife, Linda Phan, nor his employer, HGTV Canada, has released any statements regarding his alleged death.
DOOL Dispatch known for posting fake celebrity death rumors
The YouTube channel DOOL Dispatch is known for sharing satirical and frequently false content, including fake reports of celebrity deaths. In the last 24 hours, they also spread the false claim that A-list stars like Ben Affleck, Ozzy Osbourne, and Mike Tyson had died.
Meanwhile, Drew Scott has remained active on social media, recently sharing about his new series Don’t Hate Your House with the Property Brothers, which premiered on November 13, 2024.
