‘It was super rare’: Kourtney Kardashian reveals why she had fetal surgery while pregnant with son Rocky

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Kourtney Kardashian had to undergo a harrowing scenario during her pregnancy with her youngest child, Rocky, that led to her emergency fetal surgery. 

After remaining vague about the procedure for months, the Poosh founder revealed during the Thursday, June 20, episode of their family’s reality show ‘The Kardashians’, that they had to undergo the surgery because of fluid in his lungs, per Daily Mail.

During the Thursday episode, the 45-year-old reality TV star revealed that her son with husband Travis Barker had fluid in his lungs.

“It is super rare — the condition that he had — but it is also super rare and lucky that we caught it,” she shared during a confessional. 

She told the viewers that “the fluid in his lungs actually did start coming back” after she had the fetal surgery in September 2023. However, she kept the problem at bay as she started thinking positively.

The ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’ alum shared, “I watched this documentary called ‘Heal’ that was all about the power of positive thinking and how our thinking can really affect our health,” before adding, “I started talking to the baby every day, saying my prayers."

She continued, “After I had that mindset shift, the fluid was completely gone and we had not one single problem after.”

As the reality show documented Kourtney’s pregnancy and labor, her husband and the Blink-182 rocker shared, “I don’t want him to come out early.”

Referring to his baby boy, Barker said, “I want to make sure his lungs are perfect — everything’s perfect.”

Ultimately, the couple welcomed their little bundle of joy on November 1, 2023. Kourtney gushed, “It’s everything I’ve ever dreamed of,” and noted, “Everything we’ve been through to get to this moment, it just feels so surreal. I’m so happy in my blissful baby bubble and the love with Rocky.”

While she hinted at facing a health scare during her pregnancy, this was the first time that the mother-of-four ever gave any detail. 

Last month, she said, “There’s a hole in the amniotic sac from where they had to go in.”

She shared, per Page Six, “I’m not allowed to drive. I’m not allowed to stand for more than 20 minutes. I’m really not leaving the house.”

Apart from Rocky, Kourtney is the mother of son Mason, 14, daughter Penelope, 11, and son Reign, nine with ex-boyfriend Scott Disick.

I would be terrified, but she did what was necessary, had the surgery and used meditation to calm herself for the sake of the baby. I don’t often think that the K family does anything right, but her behaviour and attitude on this particular situation were spot on. I am thankful the baby is ok."

Someone else said, "Kourtney was right to pinpoint what she could do to help. I am an RN. Lowering your stress by focusing on the positive will lower the stress hormone cortisol which causes fluid retention and elevated blood pressure. Do not underestimate the power of positive thinking."

Another social media user added, "Wow is there nothing they won’t sell for money. Why not keep the reason private. Or if you want to tell not make money from it. Instead she doesn’t really talk about it until it’s shown on the Kartrashians show. Just shameless."

Someone else said, "How irresponsible of her to even suggest that a movie and positive thought changed anything about the health of her baby. How many people follow her and won't get their baby the care it needs if they think they can 'vibe' everything away?"
