‘It’s confusing to me’: Reese Witherspoon reveals her real name as she explains why she faced problems addressing a co-star

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Reese Witherspoon finally addressed her real name during a sit-down alongside her friend and ‘Big Little Lies’ co-star Nicole Kidman.

During the interview with Vanity Fair, the ‘Legally Blonde’ actress revealed she wasn’t born Reese Witherspoon. The 48-year-old actress's real name is Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon, per Daily Mail.

‘Reese’ is rather her mother Betty Reese’s maiden name. While it is not known when she took up her stage name, her Reese Witherspoon moniker appeared in iinitial projects ‘The Man in the Moon’ and ‘Wildflower’ released in 1991 when she was just 14. 

Previously, Marie Claire reported she changed her name to Reese as it sounded more “Hollywood.”

Reese Witherspoon reminds friend Nicole Kidman her real name

The ‘Cruel Intentions’ star has been in Hollywood for so long that even her close friend and collaborator Nicole Kidman required a reminder about Witherspoon’s real name. 

Recently the two stars sat down for an interview with Vanity Fair where they discussed about the production of ‘Big Little Lies’.

At one point, the ‘The Morning Show’ actress recalled calling her co-star Laura Dern as simply Dern, and not by her first name. 

“My other favorite thing is that I called Dern when we were shooting 'Big Little Lies',” said Witherspoon when the ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ actress quickly interrupted her. 

Kidman said, “I hate how you call her Dern though. It sounds weird. I'm always like, "Laura" and you're like, "no, Dern, Dern, Dern."”

It was then the Academy Award-winning star shared, “Do you know why? Because my name is Laura and her name is Laura and it's confusing to me.”

Kidman appeared to have forgotten her friend’s name. When she remembered, she concurred, “Oh that's right.”

Witherspoon clarified, “So I get confused and so I call her Dern because we can't both be Laura.”

As the ‘Moulin Rouge’ actress interrupted her explanation, saying, “But she doesn't call you Laura, though,” Witherspoon joked, “I don't understand your point, I don't like your tone, you're trying to understand something.”

The ‘Expats’ actress also quipped at the end that she would “stay out of it” henceforth.

Fans were left surprised as the star revealed her real name during the interview and they did not hold back their thoughts.

One fan said on Instagram, "I was today years old when I found out Reese’s real name is Laura lmao."
