Nicole Kidman confirms 'Big Little Lies' Season 3 in surprise reveal for Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley and other co-stars

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The highly anticipated third season of 'Big Little Lies' is officially in the works, but the news came out earlier than planned thanks to an impromptu comment by Nicole Kidman.

During a fan event in November, Kidman, 56, let it slip that the hit HBO series would return, much to the delight of fans who had been waiting five years for this announcement, reports People.

Kidman’s co-star and co-producer, Reese Witherspoon, found herself in a bit of a bind after the reveal. "Listen, this one already went somewhere and said too much and then I get the call, the ‘ring, ring,’ like, ‘Hey, is that happening?’" Witherspoon shared in a Vanity Fair video. Kidman admitted she "didn’t realize" and "got excited."

Witherspoon reassured her, saying, "It’s okay, baby, I get excited too," but then revealed that their co-stars quickly reached out for confirmation. "Then I’ve got Laura (Dern) calling me, and Zoe (Kravitz), Shailene (Woodley). They’re all like, ‘Nic said that we’re making 'Big Little Lies 3.’"

According to Kidman, production is now moving full steam ahead on the third installment of the series, which is based on Liane Moriarty's novel. "We’re moving fast and furious. And Liane is delivering the book and we’re in good shape," Kidman said before stopping herself from revealing too much more.

"The rest is — we need to shut up because there’s this whole thing that you should never talk about something until you’ve done it."

In January, Kidman revealed to Vogue Australia that her 15-year-old daughter, Sunday Rose, played a crucial role in pushing for the third season. After binge-watching the show, Sunday was adamant that the series needed to continue. "There’s no more discussion. The third series has to happen ... I’m sick of the talk. Sick of circling it. Just get it done," Kidman recalled her daughter saying.

'Big Little Lies' Season 1 and 2 are currently available for streaming on Max.
