Jason Kelce says he's figuring out his future in the NFL, admits he'll have answer in 'next couple weeks'
KANSAS, MISSOURI: Jason Kelce, the Philadelphia Eagles center, is still undecided about his future in the NFL.
He revealed that he is still weighing his options and will make a final decision in the next few weeks.
Jason Kelce is still figuring out retirement
Jason Kelce appeared on Shaquille O’Neal’s podcast during the Super Bowl weekend in Las Vegas, according to US Sun.
He discussed his playing career and the rumors that he was planning to retire after the Eagles’ wild-card loss to the Buccaneers.
“Still figuring it out,” Kelce told Shaq, adding “I think if I still want to play, I’m going to play. I think right now [I’m] not far enough away from the last game."
"It’s emotional, it’s a long season, the end of the season quite frankly, awful. So I’m just going to take some time, rest, coup and then figure it out. I think I’ll have an answer in the next couple weeks,” he added.
Kelce admitted that watching his brother Travis, the star tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, excel in the playoffs has made him reluctant to hang up his cleats, the outlet noted.
Travis Kelce won his third Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs, who defeated the San Francisco 49ers in a thrilling comeback.
Jason Kelce fears depression after leaving the NFL
However, Jason Kelce also opened up about the challenges of transitioning from the NFL to a different career.
He said that he is excited about the possibilities, but also nervous about finding fulfilment and happiness outside of football.
He shared his concerns on Chris Long’s 'Green Light' podcast, where he said, “It’s exciting to think about possibilities, it’s exciting to be able to lose weight, feel good and not have to physically fight for my life every day."
"It is exciting, the possibilities. All of us were fortunate, we can go in a lot of different areas. But that is also very nerve-wracking, you don’t know what you are going to like until you are doing it," he added.
"You don’t know what you are going get fulfilment in until you are doing it, you don’t know what you are going to be great at until you are doing it," he said.
"All that stuff is also in the back of your head. No matter how you handle it, no matter who you are, how well prepared you are to enter the next stage, everybody goes through a level of depression, really,” Kelce, who has has played 13 seasons in the NFL, further said.
