HBO claims ‘Euphoria’ cast free to 'pursue other opportunities' as Season 3 shoot delayed again
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Ever since 'Euphoria' Season 2's last episode aired more than two years ago, viewers have been eagerly awaiting the release of the next Season.
However, the wait for a third season of the acclaimed show will be longer than anticipated. In a recent development, the parent network of 'Euphoria' revealed in a statement that there has been another delay in the show's production.
What did HBO say on 'Euphoria's Season 3 delay?
A HBO spokesperson told Variety, "HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season,” adding, “In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.”
The announcement follows a rumor that the third season of the show has been canceled. The third season of the show's production has been significantly delayed, partly because of the Hollywood strikes and the passing of actor Angus Cloud (who played the local drug dealer Fez) in July 2023.
It is now more difficult to arrange production schedules because the show has elevated the majority of its actors, including Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, and Hunter Schafer, into the highest ranks in Hollywood.
In November 2023, HBO confirmed that the show’s third season was expected to premiere in 2025, meaning there would be at least a three-year gap between seasons since Season 2 debuted in January 2022.
Rumors that Season 3 would take place after a five-year time leap had been circulating due to the time gap between seasons.
As per Variety, in an interview with Jimmy Fallon in January, Elordi joked that Season 3 would have to take place in the future, otherwise it would “seem like a weird bit.”
He said, “I hope it’s soon, or they’re going to have to Benjamin Button me or something,” adding, "I’m going to have a bad back walking down the hallway, you know?”
'Euphoria' also stars Maude Apatow, Eric Dane, Alexa Demie, Nika King, Storm Reid, Colman Domingo and Austin Abrams.
It centers on Rue (Zendaya), a young heroin addict who battles to return to her high school after rehab and maintain sobriety. The show has received positive reviews for the performances (Zendaya won two Emmys for her portrayal of Rue), but it has also drawn criticism for its depiction of drug use and sexual themes.
