LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Cher wants to become a conservator for her son, Elijah Blue Allman, as he is believed to have been suffering from “mental health and substance abuse issues.”

The actress submitted papers requesting for conservatorship in Los Angeles Superior Court, RadarOnline reported.

Cher reportedly told the court on Wednesday, December 27, that she did not discuss the conservatorship with her 47-year-old son because of his “current mental and physical health issues.”

But the 77-year-old claimed to have taken the step believing he was “substantially unable to manage his own financial resources.”

‘Cher loves Elijah immensely’

A court filing by Cher, who has reportedly been selected for the role of conservator by Elijah’s siblings, stated, “Elijah is substantially unable to manage his financial resources due to severe mental health and substance abuse issues."

“Elijah is entitled to regular distributions from a trust established by his father for his benefit, but given his ongoing mental health and substance abuse issues, petitioner is concerned that any funds distributed to Elijah will immediately be spent on drugs, leaving Elijah with no assets to provide for himself, and putting Elijah’s life at risk,” it noted.

The court filing added, “[Cher] loves Elijah immensely and has always acted with his best interests in mind.”

Marieangela King ‘is not supportive of Elijah’s recovery’

In her submission, the ‘Burlesque’ star also wrote about Elijah’s ongoing divorce from Marieangela King.

She claimed, “Until recently, Elijah and Angela were estranged and their tumultuous relationship has been marked by a cycle of drug addiction and mental health crises.”

Cher also claimed that King “is not supportive of Elijah’s recovery and that Angela actively works to keep Elijah from getting clean and sober or receiving mental health treatment that he desperately needs.”

“Most recently, petitioner is informed and believes that Angela took steps to check Elijah out of the treatment center where he was receiving much-needed medical care,” the filing by the TV personality added.

‘Being a mom never stops no matter how old your kids are’

Meanwhile, several people have supported Cher online in her recent decision.

A Facebook user wrote, “If he does have a drug problem, then it is in his best interest. He needs to go into a rehab, and get help.”

Another user commented, “I trust Cher. She doesn't need to take any funds from her son for herself. I'm sure she is doing this from a place of love because that's truly who she is. She has a heart and she's for real regardless of her celebrity status.”

A third remarked, “Cher is a good person I'm sure she is making a caring choice.”

Someone added, “Way to go Cher! Being a mom never stops no matter how old your kids are.”
