‘It’s shameful’: NBA coach Steve Kerr accuses ICE of ‘murder’ in Minneapolis shooting

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA: Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has condemned ICE, labeling the recent fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good in Minnesota as an act of “m*rder.”
The veteran coach expressed his outrage following the incident, which occurred on Wednesday after Good allegedly struck an agent with her vehicle.
Steve Kerr condemns ICE, praises Timberwolves tribute
During a press conference on Friday, January 9, Kerr did not hold back his dislike for ICE and the subsequent response from President Donald Trump’s administration.
He voiced frustration over the lack of accountability for the officer involved in the shooting.
“It’s shameful, really, that in our country, we can have law enforcement officers who commit murder and seemingly get away with it,” Kerr said.
The coach further expressed his happiness that the Minnesota Timberwolves decided to honor Good with a moment of silence prior to their Thursday night game, stating, “I am glad that the Timberwolves recognized her life and the tragic nature of her death.”
Steve Kerr disputes government account citing witness videos
Furthermore, Coach Kerr criticized how the government described the incident, as President Donald Trump claimed that Good had acted “very disorderly, obstructing and resisting who then violently, willfully, and viciously ran over the ICE Officer.”

Despite the president’s stance, Kerr pointed to videos from witnesses and cell-phone footage that surfaced from the scene, which some argue contradict the official government’s stance.
“It’s shameful that the government can come out and lie about what happened when there’s video and witnesses who have all come out and disputed what the government is saying, so very demoralizing, devastating to lose you know anyone’s life especially in that matter. So, it's terrible, terribly sad for her family for her and for that city,” Kerr added.
Steve Kerr's history of political activism and outspokenness
This latest confrontation is part of a long-standing history of friction between the coach and the current administration.
Kerr has frequently criticized various policies, including his previous lambasting of ICE raids in Los Angeles.
His political involvement reached a peak during the 2024 Democratic National Convention, where he told voters it was time to tell Trump “night night” before the president’s eventual victory over Kamala Harris.
Most recently, Kerr’s activism took him to the streets in October for a “No Kings” rally in the Bay Area, an event he later described as a “love fest” populated by “beautiful people.”
