WASHINGTON, DC: Democratic strategist James Carville predicted that Donald Trump's vice presidential nominee JD Vance would object to engaging in a debate with Kamala Harris' VP pick Tim Walz.

Vance is unlikely to want to go "within 50 miles" of Tim Walz, said Carville.

James Carville casts doubt on Donald Trump v Kamala Harris debate

James Carville, in a CNN interview with Jack Tapper, pushed back against the idea that Republicans had the “edge” in the race on Tuesday, August 6, ahead of  Harris’ first campaign event with Walz.

“Let’s get the convention behind us,” Carville said. “I don’t think Trump wants to debate. JD Vance [doesn’t] want to get within 50 miles of Governor Walz, I can tell you that," he said as per The Hill.

“There’s a lot of football left to play here, and I’m excited,” Carville continued. “And I’m tired of banging my helmet against the locker. Let’s go out there and play some ball. We’re ready. We’re excited, Jake, we really are.”

"He’s a backwards candidate. We’re not talking about four years from now. He wants to talk about four years ago. And I think that’s a pretty simple dynamic on our part,” Carville told Tapper when asked for his advice to Harris and Walz.

Tim Walz's first campaign appearance and his aim at JD Vance

Tim Walz, in his first appearance Tuesday, August 6, night as Kamala Harris’ running mate, came out swinging against the Republican ticket, aiming especially at his vice presidential rival, JD Vance.

“I just have to say it. You know it. You feel it. These guys are creepy and, yes, just weird as hell. That’s what you see,” Walz said with the Philadelphia rally crowd erupting in cheer.

“Like all regular people I grew up with in the heartland, JD studied at Yale, had his career funded by Silicon Valley billionaires, and then wrote a bestseller trashing that community. Come on! That’s not what middle America is,” Walz said, adding that he “can’t wait to debate the guy.”

Internet questions James Carville says JD Vance isn't afraid of Tim Walz

Responses to James Carville's remarks on the internet were wildly diverse. The users, who were primarily Donald Trump's fans, questioned Carville's credibility and implied that no one was scared of Tim Walz.

"Probably because he’s weird. I’m reading very weird and disturbing things about that feller, Walz," wrote one user on X (formerly Twitter).

Another commented, "Carville hasn't been correct about anything in 30 years."

A different user wrote, "Neither does anybody else that isn't in the Dem cult!"

"Carnival barker needs a clue... someone should tell him Walz is going down," penned someone else. One tweet read, "Nobody is afraid of Tampon Tim."

"That’s funny! All JD Vance has to do is ask him why he abandoned his men when he was called up for Iraq!" wrote another.
