NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: English television host James Corden was trolled by a leading US fashion outlet over his appearance at the 2025 Met Gala on Monday, May 5, reported the Daily Mail.

Officially known as the Costume Institute Benefit, the Met Gala is the annual fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in Manhattan that is held on the first Monday of May every year, and is widely regarded to be one of the most prominent fashion events across the globe.

The 2025 Met Gala was hosted by a group of Black male celebrities, including musician and Men's Creative Director for Louis Vuitton Pharrell Williams, Formula One racer Lewis Hamilton, actor Colman Domingo, and rapper A$AP Rocky.

As always, the mastermind behind the event was Anna Wintour, Vogue’s editor-in-chief. While LeBron James was the honorary chair, he had to miss the event due to a knee injury.

Corden, 46, attended the event with his wife, Julia Carey. They were spotted leaving their hotel to attend the fundraiser earlier in the evening, in a clip that was uploaded on Instagram by The Cut.

The outlet wrote in the caption, "I am so sorry to ruin your night this early on but James Corden is on his way to the #metgala."

What did James Corden wear to 2025 Met Gala?

The 'Carpool Karaoke' host was dressed in a simple black tuxedo and a plain white shirt, paired with a black bow tie for the 2025 Met Gala. He accessorised with a set of dark-rimmed glasses and a pair of smart shoes.

His wife, Carey, looked dapper in a White suit, with a train continuing from the jacket.

The theme for this year's event was "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style," inspired by The Met's guest curator Monica L Miller's 2009 book 'Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity'. According to Vogue, the focus was on the emergence, growth, and significance of Black dandyism.

Internet trolls James Corden over his 2025 Met Gala look

Netizens were clearly not impressed with James Corden's outfit for the Met Gala, as many mocked him on X (formerly Twitter).

One wrote, "It’s so funny that some people put real thought and care into what they wear to the Met Gala, and James Corden just shows up every year like he’s going to his nephew’s wedding at a suburban banquet hall," and another said, "James Corden gives us nothing for the #MetGala!"

A person jibed, "Dull as ever, James," whereas someone else expressed, "Showing up to the Met Gala and having an outlet say you 'look present' has to be worse than any diss imaginable," retweeting a post by Vulture.

An individual stated, "Now I know James Corden didn’t just wear the most basic suit to the biggest night in fashion (eye roll emoji)."
