Jamie Foxx says ‘God sometimes slips away’ in Hollywood as he reflects on his recovery from health scare
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Actor Jamie Foxx has experienced a sort of reunion with God following a brain bleed in the spring of 2023, which led to a stroke and subsequent coma.
While speaking to Billy Bush of Extra on the 2025 Golden Globes red carpet, the Oscar-winning actor reflected on his journey and talked about how his relationship with God has strengthened following his recovery from the brain bleed and stroke.
Jamie Foxx believes 'God sometimes slips away' in Hollywood's hectic pace
'Ray' star Jamie Foxx, 57, who was nominated for his comedy special 'What Had Happened Was…' at the 82nd Golden Globes, hinted on the red carpet that it was challenging to keep a relationship with God while juggling the demands of Hollywood, despite a resurgence during his recovery.
Foxx told Extra: "You know, when you’re in Hollywood, you know, God sometimes slips away. But when I spoke to him, he says, ‘Listen, I need you to sit over here for a second, but when you get back out there, I ain’t telling you to be an angel, but just - you know - you have a different thing.’"
He continued, "When you dream about what you want to be, you only dream the good things. You dream the big career, the houses. You never dream tragedy," adding that his daughters Corinne Foxx and Anelise Bishop came through for him when he needed them most.
"But when tragedy happens in a real way, you need solid family and friends, so the two ladies that are with me tonight, Corinne Marie Foxx, my daughter, and Anelise Estelle Fox, held me down in a way that is hard to interpret in these settings," Foxx said.
Besides his daughters, Foxx attributed his recovery to the strength of prayer. "I wanna start by saying thank you to everyone that prayed for me when I was in a bad way… I NEEDED EVERY PRAYER… you lifted me through… I was able to make it to today because of your prayers," Foxx wrote in a December 2023 Instagram post, celebrating his 56th birthday, per Fox News Digital.

Jamie Foxx remains optimistic about life
Jamie Foxx, who was in a coma for weeks just over two years ago, told Extra that he views life as having "no bad days".
"You take a picture on your cell phone and you hit that filter, and it brightens up, that’s the way my life looks now," Foxx told Extra, describing his current style of living.
Foxx earlier praised life, resiliency, and the encouragement he received from his family, friends, and fans. He also praised the popularity of his recent comedy special on Netflix, 'What Had Happened Was,' which premiered on December 10, 2024.
Foxx engaged viewers on a very personal level as he examined topics of joy, resiliency, and vulnerability in the program.
But fans and reviewers were taken aback when the Oscar-winning actor, singer, and comedian sang a song about dating "no more White girls" in the Netflix special, per Daily Mail.
Fans of the A-lister's ex-girlfriend Katie Holmes were offended by the phrase, calling him a "racist". However, Foxx has dated and been spotted with other White women since their breakup.
Foxx decided to prioritize his family to the Golden Globes as he brought along his two daughters, 30-year-old Corinne Fox and 16-year-old Anelise Bishop.

Foxx looked his best in a black tuxedo with jewel decorations running its peaked lapels and fascinating hidden buttons. He accessorized it with a black shirt and, instead of a bow tie, wore a circular gold beaded piece with black and white pearls.
The 'Ray' star preferred wearing white-legged tuxedo pants to make a striking silhouette, and he accessorized his look with Dolce & Gabbana derby shoes adorned with dark crystals and pointed black spectacles.
Foxx was spotted mingling with celebrities at the ceremony, including Adam Sandler, who was sitting at the same table as him. But he lost the Golden Globe for Best Performance in Stand-up Comedy on Television to Ali Wong for 'Single Lady'.
