Jamie Foxx to share truth about his health scare in Netflix special amid Diddy ‘poisoning’ rumors
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: It looks like Jamie Foxx is ready to spill the tea, crack some jokes, and tell his truth.
After a whirlwind year full of mystery, health scares, and a whole lot of speculation, Foxx is taking center stage to pour his heart out in his new Netflix comedy special 'What Had Happened Was…' dropping December 10.
The Oscar-winning actor was hospitalized in April 2023 for a health crisis while filming the Netflix movie 'Back in Action' in Atlanta.
Jamie Foxx's comeback after health scare
Jamie Foxx, 56, hit Instagram on Sunday, December 1, to reflect on his journey back into the limelight.
"Cannot say it enough that I am blessed to be able to tell my story in my own way so many people to thank so many people have prayed…" Foxx wrote.
Jamie made sure to give a shoutout to Atlanta, the city that gave him the warmest welcome back to the stage after an 18-year hiatus.

“A big shout-out to Atlanta! You showed up and showed out, made me feel at home, made me feel safe after 18 years of not being on stage. You made it feel like it was just yesterday… can’t wait for everyone to experience the vibe that we had," he gushed.
The energy in Atlanta was electric, and according to Foxx, the experience of filming the special was nothing short of spiritual: “It was like going to church… we laughed… we had a few tears… but last, but not least, we celebrated life… and second chances… cannot wait.”
The supposed Diddy connection to Jamie Foxx's hospitalization
Now, here’s where things get spicy. Jamie Foxx's health scare last year had fans and tabloids scratching their heads and buzzing with questions. And according to some who attended the live taping of 'What Had Happened Was…', Jamie didn’t shy away from addressing the rumors—specifically those linking his mysterious illness to Sean "Diddy" Combs, the Daily Mail reported.
Producer-director Choke No Joke — who attended the shows — claimed Jamie dropped some bombshells about Diddy. On Comedy Hype’s YouTube channel, Choke said Foxx admitted to being "the one who called the FBI on" Diddy, who’s currently facing federal charges.
Choke even said Foxx implied Diddy was behind his health crisis.
“Diddy was responsible for what happened to him,” Choke alleged Foxx said during one of the performances.
According to Choke, Foxx stayed under the radar for months out of fear of retribution but reemerged in full force once Diddy was arrested in September.
"And now he just went and shot his special. And who's the special strongly based around? Diddy," Choke No Joke added. He told Page Six that he was "shocked" Foxx spoke about the topic.
The 'poison' theory
The plot thickens with celebrity bodyguard Big Homie CC, who went on record saying he believes Sean 'Diddy' Combs poisoned Jamie Foxx.
Big Homie claimed this incident is what pushed Foxx to turn over information to the FBI about Diddy’s alleged crimes.
"Jamie Foxx reported him to the FBI because of it… Jamie Foxx reported this man to the FBI because of this," Big Homie CC told Cam Capone News.
However, not everyone agrees on this narrative.
Another attendee, actor Dennis LA White, said Foxx explicitly denied Diddy’s involvement during one of his sets.
"People keep asking me if Diddy was responsible. He was not responsible. If he was, I would've been dead," Foxx reportedly said, per White.
Jamie Foxx feels grateful to be alive
Jamie Foxx’s teaser for the special strikes a deeply personal chord.
“I said, ‘If I can stay funny, then I can stay alive’—I’m back," he quipped in the trailer for the show, which was directed by Hamish Hamilton.
While fans can expect plenty of laughs, 'What Had Happened Was…' promises to be more than just comedy. The special dives into Jamie’s serious health scare, rumors, and the hard-earned lessons he’s gathered along the way.
The 'What Had Happened Was…' ad sums it up perfectly: “Experience Jamie Foxx like never before in this intimate and engaging performance, as he opens up about his struggles, triumphs, and everything in between. Get ready for a night of laughter, reflection, and genuine connection.”
Foxx isn’t stopping with stand-up. He’s also headlining 'Back in Action', a Netflix comedy movie reuniting him with his Annie and 'Any Given Sunday' co-star Cameron Diaz.
The film drops on January 17, 2025, so mark your calendars.
