Jamie Lee Curtis reveals on-set remark that made her get plastic surgery at 25: 'Have regretted it since'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jamie Lee Curtis is opening up about the moment that drove her to undergo plastic surgery at a young age.

The Oscar-winning actress reflected on a hurtful experience that led to decisions she still regrets decades later.

During an interview with '60 Minutes' on Sunday, May 11, the 66-year-old actress said a comment from a cinematographer on the set of the 1985 film 'Perfect' made her feel embarrassed about her appearance, pushing her to go under the knife at just 25.

"He was like, ‘Yeah, I'm not shooting her today. Her eyes are baggy.’ And I was 25, so for him to say that, it was very embarrassing," Curtis shared. 

"So as soon as the movie finished, I ended up having some plastic surgery," she added.

She also admitted that the procedure left her with lasting regret.

“That's just not what you want to do when you're 25 or 26. And I regretted it immediately and have kind of sort of regretted it since,” the 'Forever Young' actress said.

The 'Halloween' star, who is the daughter of screen legends Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, said she later found herself at odds with the choice.

“I've become a really public advocate to say to women you're gorgeous and you're perfect the way you are. So yeah, it was not a good thing for me to do,” the 66-year-old said.

Jamie Lee Curtis also revealed that the plastic surgery contributed to a deeper struggle.

“I became very enamored with the warm bath of an opiate. You know, drank a little bit … never to access, never any big public demonstrations. I was very quiet, very private about it, but it became a dependency for sure,” she said. 

During a 2021 interview with 'Fast Company', she shared, “I tried plastic surgery and it didn't work. It got me addicted to Vicodin."

She further revealed, “I'm 22 years sober now,” as she voiced her concern about society's ongoing fixation with image enhancements.

“The current trend of fillers and procedures, and this obsession with filtering, and the things that we do to adjust our appearance on Zoom are wiping out generations of beauty,” Cutis continued, adding, “Once you mess with your face, you can't get it back,” according to People.
