Jared Leto's years of uncertainty with the disappearance of his Oscar award
Jared Leto first revealed the award's disappearance during a 2021 appearance on 'The Late Late Show With James Corden'.
At the time, the 'Morbius' actor admitted that the Oscar had been missing for three years.
“I found out that it’s been missing for, like, three years, and I didn’t know that,” Leto said.
He suspected the statuette had vanished during a house move in Los Angeles.
Though he and his team conducted extensive searches, they were unable to locate it.
Despite its absence, Leto maintained a hopeful outlook as he remarked at the time, “I hope it’s in good hands wherever it is."
He speculated it might have been taken by someone, adding, “It’s not the sort of thing someone accidentally throws in the trash.”
Jared Leto's prestigious role in the 'Dallas Buyers Club'
Recalling the night he received the award, Jared Leto revealed how it became a shared treasure.
“I passed it around to so many people. I didn’t see it half the night," he said, adding, "The thing’s beat up and scratched up, but people had fun taking pictures with it.”
Leto earned critical acclaim for his role as Rayon, a transgender woman living with HIV, in 'Dallas Buyers Club'.
His performance not only secured him the Oscar but also a Golden Globe and SAG Award.
During his acceptance speech in 2014, he paid tribute to his mother for inspiring him to dream and honored those who lost their lives to AIDS.
Leto joins a list of stars who have misplaced their Oscars, including Angelina Jolie, Whoopi Goldberg, and Frances McDormand.
Jolie once revealed her Oscar went missing after she entrusted it to her late mother, while McDormand’s was stolen and later recovered in 2018.
According to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, those who lose their Oscars must report it immediately.
In some cases, a replacement statue can be issued, as per Daily Mail.
