NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Rep. Jasmine Crockett took aim at slain conservative figure Charlie Kirk on the day of his memorial, claiming he often targeted “people of color.”

The Democratic firebrand made the statement during an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash on Sunday, September 21, the same day as Kirk’s memorial service in Glendale, Arizona.

Jasmine Crockett says Charlie Kirk’s rhetoric targeted people of color

Dana Bash pointed out that Crockett was among 58 Democrats who voted against a resolution honoring Kirk. Asked why she did so, Crockett replied, “One of the things that honestly hurts my heart, is when I saw the ‘No’ votes, there were only two Caucasians.”

She added, “For the most part, the only people who voted ‘No’ were people of color because the rhetoric that Charlie Kirk continuously put out there was rhetoric that specifically targeted people of color."

Crockett said it was “unfortunate” that many of her colleagues “could not see how harmful his rhetoric was, specifically to us.”

She also mentioned that just a month before his death, Kirk was “talking negatively” about her on his podcast.

"So if there was any way I was going to honor somebody who decided they were going to negatively talk about me and claim I was somehow involved in the great white replacement, yeah, I’m not honoring that kind of stuff—especially as a civil rights attorney and knowing how I got to Congress,” Crockett said.

She added, “There were people who died, people who were willing to die, to make sure that voices like mine could exist in this place.”

Her remarks aired just hours before Charlie Kirk’s memorial began at State Farm Stadium in Glendale.

Internet slams Jasmine Crockett for her remarks on Charlie Kirk

Crockett’s comments triggered criticism online, with many users accusing her of disrespecting the late conservative leader.

One wrote on X, “She probably has never heard one word that Charlie Kirk ever said.” Another added, “Pray for her soul because she’ll need it."

Others chimed in with, “Remember, it’s all about her, all the time,” and, “Forgive her Lord, for she knows not what she’s doing. But Lord, please also remove her from her public position of influence."

Another person remarked, “She wanted to be viewed as lacking class. Done,” while one user said, “If the truth about you is negative, it’s you. Not the message."

Others demanded proof, writing, “Please quote where and when Charlie Kirk was speaking negatively about you,” and, “It’s hard to imagine that Jasmine Crockett could be any more obnoxious!"
