'In shock': Jason Gould reveals how mother Barbra Streisand reacted on hearing him sing for first time
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Jason Gould, son of the legendary singer Barbra Streisand, has always moved to his own beat, creating music for his pleasure and expressing himself through his art.
However, it was a moment of revelation when his mother, Streisand, overheard him singing for the first time when he was 15.
This moment, which Gould recalls as one where his mother was in "shock," marked the beginning of his journey into the world of music.
Jason Gould expresses himself through music
Gould does music for his pleasure. He also finds it necessary to express himself without any pressure.
“I do music for my own pleasure because I have a need to create and express myself,” Gould told People.
“The pressure, it’s really not there for me. I mean, I strive for excellence, but perfection doesn’t exist. I am at peace with that now,” he explained.
With this mindset, he recorded his third extended play, 'Sacred Days', which was released on Friday, March 22. “I’m quite proud of it, so I’m just glad that it’s going to be out in the world,” he said.

Jason Gould dampened down as he didn't want to be compared to mother Barbra Streisand
Gould, the only son of Streisand, 81, and her first husband, actor Elliott Gould, 85, has come a long way from the reserved child he once was.
“I was kind of a repressed kid; a lot of us shy folks go into the arts to express ourselves,” he said.
It wasn’t until Gould was 15 that his mother overheard him through the door to his bedroom and knew he could sing.
“It was part of me that I was afraid to explore because my mother was an icon in that world,” he recalled.

“It was like, ‘I don’t want to be compared to her,’ so I dampened down that part of myself for a long time," he said.

Jason Gould's first song with Barbra Streisand and why he doesn't like spotlight
The first time he played his song 'How Deep Is the Ocean?' for his mother, “I think she was in shock,” he recalled to the outlet. “She said, ‘I want to sing this with you.’”
They indeed accomplished this at the Hollywood Bowl in 2012 as Gould says, “I didn’t know if I was going to pass out" as performing for the first time in front of a vast audience of 18,000 was daunting for him.
He said his presence was solely to support his mother and the music, not to seek personal glory, "I was just showing up," he explaiened.
Despite the warm reception, he confesses that the limelight never excited him. “It didn’t give me a thrill or a hit... I’m not that guy," he said referring to the people who say they feel most alive on stage.
"I’ve never felt comfortable in the spotlight, so I always hung out in the shadow. And yet, I need to create and express myself," Gould said.
