Jasveen Sangha who sold drugs to Matthew Perry 'deserves to pay,' second victim's sister says
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jasveen Sangha, a 41-year-old US-British dual national, is facing charges in connection with the drug-related deaths of Matthew Perry and Cody McLaury.
Matthew Perry, well-known for his role as Chandler Bing in the popular sitcom 'Friends,' drowned in a hot tub at his Los Angeles mansion last October after allegedly overdosing on ketamine.
Cody McLaury, another alleged victim, died in 2019 within a day of purchasing drugs from Sangha.
Cody McLaury's sister holds Jasveen Sangha responsible for his death
Jasveen Sangha, who is currently in custody and is awaiting trial, has been denied bail. If convicted on all charges related to Matthew Perry's case, she faces a mandatory minimum prison term of 10 years and a maximum sentence of life.
Kimberly McLaury, the sister of Cody McLaury, has condemned Sangha for her brother's death.
"She is responsible for my brother Cody’s death," Kimberly said, according to The Sun. Sangha is accountable for providing Cody with access to ketamine.
Sangha allegedly distributed ketamine to Cody in 2019, leading to his death shortly after.
"The ketamine you sold my brother killed him. It’s listed as the cause of death," Kimberly allegedly texted Sangha after Cody's death.
Days later, according to the report, Sangha googled, "Can ketamine be listed as a cause of death."
This search was noted in the charges against her which include knowingly and intentionally distributing ketamine.
Jasveen Sangha's London connection and work with the Financial Times newspaper
Jasveen Sangha has a background that includes time spent studying in London where she claimed to have worked for the Financial Times newspaper.
However, a spokesman for the publication clarified to the publication that she was never employed there. Instead, Sangha was part of an "action learning program," a project between the school and the newspaper.
Despite this, Sangha had boasted on LinkedIn about her role in creating strategies to increase revenues and subscriptions for the newspaper, according to the reports.
US court documents also reveal that Sangha allegedly supplied drugs to other Hollywood celebrities and "high-end" clients.
She has pleaded not guilty to all nine charges against her. Sangha is accused of supplying 50 vials of ketamine to Perry for £8,550 through a fixer named Erik Fleming in the weeks leading up to the actor's death.
Kimberly McLaury expresses relief over Jasveen Sangha facing justice
Kimberly McLaury expressed relief that Sangha is finally facing justice, though she lamented that it took so long for her to be prosecuted.
"I hold Jasveen responsible for my brother’s death," Kimberly said, adding that Sangha continued selling drugs even after knowing about the deaths of two individuals.
Kimberly noted that while there is no moral code to being a drug dealer, Sangha’s actions reflect her character.
Reflecting on her brother's struggles, Kimberly mentioned that Cody, like Matthew Perry, suffered from depression.
"He had had some depression and ketamine is known to help," Kimberly shared, adding that to her knowledge, Cody was not a drug addict but used ketamine as "a bit of an escape from reality."
As Sangha awaits trial in October, Kimberly believes that Sangha "deserves to pay the consequences" for her actions.
"She did this to herself. She made her bed and she deserves to pay the consequences," Kimberly said, expressing a sense of closure as the case progresses.
