The county further mentioned that some areas inside the county's facilities are open to the public, including law enforcement agents, who may be performing official duties.
Footage from the scene, which was shared by Chris Murphy, shows approximately two dozen federal agents leading one detainee out of the building as observers and protestors recorded the operation. Some people blew whistles and shouted at agents.
Meanwhile, Hennepin County said it expects 'all agencies operating in our facilities to conduct themselves in a manner that respects the rights and dignity of individuals and that recognizes the important interests of Hennepin County in providing services to its residents.'
ICE arrests violent convicts across US during Christmas week
Immigration and Customs Enforcement successfully apprehended many 'worst of the worst' criminal undocumented individuals on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The action was described as the 'greatest gift of all' for American families by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
The coordinated effort targeted high-profile offenders across multiple states to ensure that dangerous individuals were removed from local communities during the festive season.
As per DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin, while most Americans were spending time with family, ICE agents were actively working and putting 'their lives on the line' to locate and detain 'gang members, murderers, drug traffickers, and violent thugs.'
The operations were specifically designed to prioritize public safety by focusing on individuals with a history of serious criminal activity.
In an official statement, McLaughlin said, "While families across the country joined together for Christmas celebrations, ICE continued delivering the American people the greatest gift of all: getting criminals out of our neighborhoods and protecting our families."
"We are thankful for our law enforcement who sacrifice time with their family and put their lives on the line to remove the worst of the worst," she added.
The operation led to the arrest of individuals from different countries, such as Mexico, Cuba, Somalia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Sudan, the Dominican Republic, and Venezuela, all of whom had prior criminal convictions.
