WASHINGTON, DC: Former National Security Adviser John Bolton is facing new legal scrutiny after federal agents raided his Maryland residence and Washington, DC, office on Friday, August 22.

The searches are part of an investigation being overseen by FBI Director Kash Patel. According to reports, the probe is connected to a years-old classified documents case that had previously been closed under the Biden administration.

As news of the raid broke, Kash Patel posted on X (formerly Twitter), “NO ONE is above the law.”

The controversy surrounding the raids quickly shifted into the political arena during a 'Meet the Press' interview, where NBC News anchor Kristen Welker pressed Vice President JD Vance on whether the investigation represented retaliation by President Donald Trump.

Welker framed her question around the notion that “a lot of people are saying” viewed the move as an act of revenge against Bolton, an ally-turned-critic. Bolton had previously clashed with Trump on foreign policy issues and became one of his most vocal detractors after leaving the administration.

Vance firmly rejected the suggestion that the case was driven by personal animosity. “Who has said it looks a lot like retribution, Kristen? A lot of people who tried to throw Donald Trump in prison for completely fake charges that were later thrown out by multiple different courts?” he shot back.

The vice president argued that the investigation was being handled carefully and not out of haste, stressing that Americans would recognize its legitimacy once more details came to light. “I suspect that if the media and the American people actually let this case play out, they’re going to find out that what we’re doing has been very deliberate,” he added.

The full interview with Vance is scheduled to air on Sunday, but his sharp exchange with Welker has already sparked attention online, with critics accusing the press of bias and others questioning the broader implications of Bolton’s case.

Vice President JD Vance is earning accolades online after a fiery back-and-forth with NBC News’ Kristen Welker, where he pushed back sharply against her suggestion that the probe into John Bolton is driven by retribution.

The exchange quickly went viral, sparking praise from supporters who said Vance set a new benchmark for how Republican leaders should handle mainstream media interviews.

One user celebrated the moment, writing, “VP just dropped the mic on that ‘retribution’ nonsense. Remember when the media hyped those bogus cases like they were Watergate? Courts tossed 'em, but the narrative lives on. Keep cooking, Vance.”

Others were more blunt in their support. “JD Vance nailed it!” one wrote.

Another vented frustration with the press, saying, “To hell with these fake news journalists.” One more wrote, “I always wonder why our guys are even talking to these nasty journalists, but I guess there is still a tiny contingent of people watching corporate media for news.”

“He is setting a new standard for VPs,” one penned, while another summed it up more simply: “VANCE IS UNDEFEATED.”
