Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez secretly married in US with prenup worth millions: Reports

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez may have spent millions on a three-day celebration in Venice, Italy, seemingly to tie the knot, but multiple sources claim the couple is already married.
According to Page Six, the pair is believed to have not legally registered to say “I do” while abroad.

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez have not submitted ‘necessary documents’ to get married in Venice
An Italian source said, “By law, civil weddings in Italy must typically be officiated at the town hall. However, the city can designate another venue as legally valid for the ceremony.”
“According to the councilor, there were no signs that this had occurred, nor that the necessary documents for non-residents to marry in Italy had been submitted,” the source added.
Insiders have revealed that the couple had already legally married prior to their opulent ceremony on Friday, June 27, on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore.

The festivities will be attended by high-profile names, including billionaire Barry Diller and his designer wife Diane von Furstenberg; Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner, and Khloe Kardashian; Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King; NFL legend Tom Brady; and music executive Scooter Braun.
Venice official denies Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez are having ‘a civil ceremony’
A renowned Florida-based attorney said, “Often, a marriage in a foreign country is not valid in the USA, or it creates other issues. So yes, it is likely they are already married.”
The publication also cited a report by The Times of London, which quoted a Venice official as saying, “I can totally rule out that they will have a civil ceremony in Venice under Italian law.”

Like Amazon CEO and Sanchez, George and Amal Clooney also held their wedding in Venice in 2014 — but it’s been reported that their ceremony was officiated at Venice Town Hall prior to the celebration.
Meanwhile, three prominent lawyers have revealed that Bezos and the 55-year-old journalist have signed a substantial prenuptial agreement.
Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez can only get divorce in ‘state of the primary residence’
According to one of the attorneys, “They can get married anywhere, as their prenup would generally be drafted to ensure its enforceability everywhere.”
However, they also noted, “Divorce can only happen in the state of primary residence. So if they live in Florida, no matter where they marry or what the prenup says, they would have to divorce in Florida.”

“Likewise, if they left Florida and moved to New York as their primary residence, they would have to divorce in New York. A prenup cannot confer jurisdiction on a state to grant a divorce without residency in that state,” the lawyer added.
