The rumors began circulating after a New York Post article cited a report from The Daily Mail, claiming that Bezos, 60, and Sanchez, 55, were set to hold a stunning wedding ceremony in Aspen on December 28.

The claims sparked widespread media coverage, with the event being described as an extravagant celebration involving an eye-watering $600 million price tag.

In response to the speculation, Bezos took to X (formerly Twitter) to set the record straight. Commenting on a post by Bill Ackman, CEO of Pershing Square, who had criticized the report, Bezos wrote, “Furthermore, this whole thing is completely false — none of this is happening.”

He added, "The old adage “don’t believe everything you read” is even more true today than it ever has been."

Bezos, who has been engaged to Sanchez since May 2023, expressed his disbelief at the rumors, noting how quickly false reports can spread. "Now lies can get all the way around the world before the truth can get its pants on. So be careful out there folks and don’t be gullible," he advised his followers.

Bezos then criticized publications that disseminated the false news about his nuptials, writing, "Will be interesting to see if all the outlets that “covered” and re-reported on this issue a correction when it comes and goes and doesn’t happen."

According to People, Bezos and Sanchez began dating in January 2019 and got engaged in May 2023.

Internet reacts to $600M wedding rumors, criticizing the cost and questioning priorities

Social media users have quickly reacted to rumors of a $600 million wedding between Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez, with many criticizing the extravagant cost.

Comments flooded in questioning the priorities of such a lavish event, with one user pointing out that the money could be better spent while others expressed disbelief over the enormous sum.

A user said, "So how much money are you spending on the wedding? Regardless of the exact dollar amount I'd be more embarrassed about marrying an old woman in her 50s."

Another added, "This is not credible. Unless you are buying each of your guests a house, you can’t spend this much money."

A third commentator remarked, "If you had given 1 million dollars to every American instead of doing that wedding we would all be millionaires and you would have 250 million left over."

"Imagine if that money went toward making the world better. What's stopping you from ending world hunger?" read a comment.

A person said, "But uncle Bezos, you are not marrying or you are not spending this much or both?"

On the other hand, some fans stood in support of Bezos.

An X user said, "That’s crazy, even if you did spend that much money on a wedding it doesn’t matter because it goes into the economy not to mention it’s nobody’s business. Regardless congratulations on your marriage."

Another chimed in, "Aren’t you glad you have 𝕏 where you can tell the world the truth about the fake news? Thanks for clarifying it for us."
