AUSTIN, TEXAS: Rapper and singer Jelly Roll was overcome with emotion when fellow country singer Craig Morgan surprised him with an invitation to join the prestigious 'Grand Ole Opry' during an episode of 'The Joe Rogan Experience' aired on Wednesday, December 10.

Craig Morgan Invitation and Jelly Roll Reaction

Jelly Roll was presented with a pre-recorded video of Craig Morgan, who delivered the news that Jelly Roll was officially being invited to join country music’s most iconic stage.

Morgan expressed his gratitude for Jelly Roll’s impact on fans: “You’re officially invited to become a member of the 'Grand Ole Opry'… welcome to the family, brother.”

Hearing those words visibly shook Jelly Roll. He removed his headphones, buried his face in his hands, and wept. He then hugged Joe Rogan and expressed his appreciation.

During the podcast, Rogan played a clip of Jelly Roll’s earlier performance at the Opry, which the rapper described as “the most special night of my life.”

In that clip, Jelly Roll recalled how hearing Morgan’s song “Almost Home” while incarcerated gave him hope, a moment that shaped his musical dreams. Hearing Morgan’s voice again, acknowledging that Jelly Roll’s music had “made a positive difference” in fans’ lives, brought him to tears.

Jelly Roll reflected, “I didn’t think I’d make it,” acknowledging how far he had come since those early days of struggle. He remembered first buying tickets to the Opry just to see Morgan perform, sitting in the seventh row, and being moved to tears by the music—a moment that inspired him to make others feel the same way through his own songs.

Jelly Roll Historic Journey to Opry

Although Jelly Roll just received the official invitation, his history with the 'Grand Ole Opry' goes back several years.

He made his Opry debut in November 2021. When asked in 2023 about that first performance, he admitted he had “cried like a baby” even though he was not yet well-known or signed to a major record label.

At the time, he had told his record deal representatives that performing at the Opry was a non-negotiable ambition. Growing up only about 15 minutes from the Opry venue, being on that stage had always felt like a distant, nearly impossible dream. The grandeur of the Opry made the dream feel “50 million miles away,” yet the invitation now affirms that dream is real.

More recently, Jelly Roll returned to the Opry stage in September 2025 for two shows alongside friends, with performances supporting Nashville’s Judge Dinkins Educational Center and the Buddy DeFord Fund.

To be accepted as a member of the Opry requires far more than a single performance. The organization considers “standards of success in country music,” including radio airplay, record sales, touring success, and overall recognition—all reflecting a musician’s career achievements and future potential.
