Jenna Bush Hager reveals how her father George W Bush roasted her for 'one hour' in front of Barack Obama
WASHINGTON, DC: Jenna Bush Hager shared how her father, former president George W Bush, roasted her for an hour during a public event in the presence of Barack Obama.
During an episode of 'Today with Hoda & Jenna,' she recalled spending time with her parents over the weekend and moderating an event where her father made several jokes at her expense.
George W Bush teases Jenna Bush Hager about her past arrest
Jenna Bush Hager explained that while she was moderating the event, her father George W Bush, couldn’t resist bringing up her past.
"He would be like, 'Yeah Jen okay, why don’t you tell everybody about the time you were arrested,'" Jenna said as her co-host Hoda Kotb laughed.
Jenna went on to describe how the event felt like a roast. "It was just a one-hour roast. I would ask questions, he would roast me a little, I would ask a question, a slight roast, and that's what happened – but it was fun and funny," she added, according to Daily Mail.
Jenna was caught purchasing alcohol on someone's ID while being underage in 2021.
Barack Obama's response to Jenna Bush Hager after being roasted
Barack Obama seemed quite surprised by the way George W Bush poked fun at his daughter.
"President Obama was there, so we got to see him for a little bit, and he was like, 'How do you do that? Why do you come and do this?'" she recalled.
Obama even commented on the roasting after Hager realized he must have seen some of the roasting. He told her, "This must be hard for you." Jenna replied, "Yes, it is."
Jenna Bush Hager's underage drinking arrest
The Bush twins, Jenna and Barbara Pierce Bush, were caught underage drinking during their freshman year of college shortly after their father became president.
The sisters have candidly described the arrest and even wrote about it in their 2017 memoir 'Sisters First.'
In April 2001, Jenna was arrested at a club for drinking a beer. She pleaded no contest and was ordered to pay $51.25 in court costs.
Besides this, she was ordered eight hours of community service and to attend an alcohol awareness class.
The next month, Jenna's twin sister Barbara, a Yale University student, visited Jenna in Austin. They were arrested at Chuy's restaurant for trying to buy alcohol. The manager had notified authorities, suspecting the group was underage.
