LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jennifer Garner, a two-time divorcee, recently shared insightful marriage advice during her appearance on the 'Lipstick on the Rim' podcast.

The 52-year-old actress revealed a piece of wisdom she got from her mother, Patricia Garner, and which she has abided by over the years: “Never expect a man — don’t marry a man thinking you can change him.”

Garner added humorously, “I need to work on that one,” though it was unclear if she was referring to her past relationships or the way she stumbled over the quote.

Garner, who was married to Scott Foley from 2000 to 2004 and Ben Affleck from 2005 to 2018, also shared additional “vintage Pat Garner” sayings. She noted that many of these quotes are inspired by characters like Mrs Ingalls from 'Little House on the Prairie' and Anne from 'Anne of Green Gables'.

Some of her other favorites include: “Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes in the morning” and “Happiness is your own responsibility.”

Although the actress didn’t discuss the details of her marriages during the episode, she briefly mentioned her children with Affleck. Garner agreed with co-hosts Molly Sims and Emese Gormley when they praised her children — Violet (18), Seraphina (15), and Samuel (12) — as “resilient” and “amazing.”

Jennifer Garner also took a moment to reflect on her previous marriage to Foley, explaining that they “would probably still be together” if not for the pressures of their “fast-lane life” in Hollywood.

When discussing her time with Affleck, she had previously told Vanity Fair in 2016 that he is a “complicated guy.” She shared, “I always say, ‘When his sun shines on you, you feel it.’ But when the sun is shining elsewhere, it’s cold. He can cast quite a shadow.”

Two weeks after the episode aired, Garner and Affleck were photographed spending Thanksgiving together with their three children. The family of five volunteered with Midnight Mission to serve meals to the homeless in Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Lopez, who is also navigating her second divorce from Affleck, shared a Thanksgiving post on Instagram, calling herself “so incredibly grateful” in the caption.
