Jennifer Lopez devastated that her 'This Is Me… Now' album 'did so poorly' despite passionate promotion
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jennifer Lopez is reportedly "devastated" after her first album in nearly a decade, 'This Is Me… Now', performed poorly despite her passionate promotion.
JLo's ninth studio album, 'This Is Me… Now', was released on February 16, amid much fanfare. While it debuted at No 38 on Billboard Hot 200, it quickly dropped from the list.
The 54-year-old star left no stone unturned to promote her passion project, on which she spent $20 million. Moreover, the album was accompanied by a short film titled, 'This Is Me… Now: A Love Story'.
A documentary titled 'The Greatest Love Story Never Told' was also released on February 27.
Sources close to the 'On The Floor' singer are now revealing that she was disappointed by the poor reception of her project that marked the sequel to her 2002 album 'This Is Me… Then', which was released during the time she first dated her now-husband, Ben Affleck.
'This Is Me… Now' narrates the story of Lopez and Affleck's rekindled romance, which led to them tying the knot in 2022.
Underwhelming performance of 'This Is Me… Now' left Jennifer Lopez humiliated
Insiders shared that the unsatisfactory performance of 'This Is Me… Now' even prompted JLo to cancel the stadium tour she planned to promote the album.
As per InTouch Weekly, sources noted, "JLo’s devastated, the album, her first in nearly a decade, did so poorly."
The tipster continued, "She's never experienced this kind of failure. It's humiliating. She poured her heart and soul into this project. It was a huge undertaking."
Commenting on the reported poor ticket sales of the now-canceled comeback tour stops, they added, "She can’t perform to a stadium with tons of empty seats."
Lopez herself admitted in the 'The Greatest Love Story Never Told' documentary that she wasn’t sure about how the album was going to perform. "I didn’t even have to make the record. It’s not like anybody was clamoring for the next JLo record, you know what I mean?" remarked the 'I'm Real' artist.
While seven of her past albums debuted in the Top 10 on the Billboard 200 Chart, her 2024 album missed the mark by a large margin.
Jennifer Lopez's former publicist believes 'This Is Me… Now' performed poorly as 'no one cares about Bennifer anymore'
Lopez's former publicist Rob Shuter told the New York Post that he believes the lack of public interest in her love story with Affleck is one of the major contributing factors to the album's underperformance.
"Jennifer’s always been a marketing and PR genius but her biggest miscalculation here is that she thinks the world is still interested in Ben and Jennifer’s love story," expressed Shuter.
He asserted, "But no one cares about Bennifer anymore. The world has moved on."
