Jennifer Lopez is splurging 'like a billionaire' amid potential $50M divorce settlement with Ben Affleck
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jennifer Lopez is reportedly dealing with her recent split from Ben Affleck the way some of us dream of – by splurging on a string of lavish purchases.
According to sources, the 'Let's Get Loud' hitmaker is trying to lift her spirits by blowing serious cash left and right. And while Lopez has built an empire, she's apparently spending like there's no limit to her fortune.
Is Jennifer Lopez on a shopping spree to forget the heartbreak?
After officially filing for divorce on August 20, ending her two-year marriage with the 'Gone Girl' actor, it seems like Lopez, 55, is enjoying some retail therapy. A source told In Touch, “She’s throwing around money like she’s a billionaire right now, which just isn’t the case.”
Lopez is undeniably wealthy with a net worth of a staggering $400 million, but even her financial advisers are urging her to slow down. They’ve "told her that if she wants to stay that way, she needs to reign in her spending,” the insider added.
But Lopez's spending spree is all part of how she’s coping with her divorce, according to the source. And her finances might take a major hit too if her divorce doesn’t go smoothly.
“First of all, she’s got this divorce to settle, which could cost her as much as $50 million,” the source explained. “On top of it, she’s now forking out on all kinds of things, including another $50 million home.”
Big real estate play and bigger entourage
Jennifer Lopez isn’t just splurging on clothes and accessories; she’s also looking to make a major real estate move. She’s reportedly eyeing the stunning Azria Estate in Holmby Hills — a 14-bedroom mansion complete with gardens, a guest house and an infinity pool.
It’s currently listed at a whopping $55 million, though she’s allegedly trying to get the price down to $39 million. Still, it’s a hefty sum even at that “reduced” price. Combined with her other expenses, it’s got her finance team scratching their heads.
In addition to house hunting, Lopez is reportedly beefing up her entourage. “That means her weekly spending has instantly tripled because when she goes anywhere, they all go with her," the source explained.
And it doesn’t stop there – the 'Love Don't Cost a Thing' singer has been treating herself and her crew to extravagant shopping sprees.
“She calls it retail therapy and says she needs it, but the bills are outrageous,” the insider shared. “She’s regularly spending a few hundred thousand dollars a day on designer clothes for her and her entourage. The way she’s hemorrhaging money right now is madness, but she says it makes her happy, so it’s worth it — end of story.”
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's looming divorce drama
As if the shopping sprees and real estate drama weren’t enough, there’s also the looming threat of a costly divorce settlement. Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez reportedly didn’t sign a prenuptial agreement before tying the knot in Las Vegas in July 2022, which means they might have to divide their assets equally.
And with Lopez’s net worth sitting around $400 million – roughly four times more than Affleck’s estimated $150 million – things could get messy. “It’s become very clear now that there’s no getting out of paying Ben half of what she made during their marriage, which is obviously not sitting well with her,” the source told In Touch.
But Lopez is not one to back down from a fight. “She has enough money to drag this out, and frankly, she’d rather give the money to lawyers than Ben, so she’s given her team the go-ahead to stall as much as they can, no matter what it costs her in fees," the insider noted.
As for Affleck, it seems he’s taking a more laid-back approach – at least publicly. “Ben is trying to play down the money aspect of it, but there’s no doubt it does represent a pretty decent payday,” the source explained. “And he’s justifying taking it by saying he deserves every dime just for putting up with her and all her drama.”
