Jennifer Lopez reveals ‘mistakes’ she made with her romantic partners amid Ben Affleck divorce rumors
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Singer-actress Jennifer Lopez claimed that while all her romantic relationships were extremely different from one another, she had committed the same mistakes in each of them.
Although she did not fully place the blame on herself when romances failed, she acknowledged that the issue was always the same.
Lopez, who is reportedly headed toward separation from Ben Affleck, describes how she was able to fix this issue, per Cheat Sheet.
Jennifer Lopez reveals she frequently messed up in romantic relationships
The 'On the Floor' hitmaker—who was recently spotted leaving Equinox in the Hamptons while sporting a stunning new 'Jennifer' nameplate necklace—earlier claimed that she often made mistakes in her romantic relationships.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Lopez talked about her past relationships while she was still married to Marc Anthony. She admitted that she wasn't in enough touch with herself in her past relationships with Affleck and Sean 'Diddy' Combs.
She said at the time, "I wasn’t in touch with who I was, what I wanted, what I deserved, what I needed. It was more about the other person for me, and that’s where I made my mistakes."
"It wasn’t even their fault; it was me. I needed to get to where I could say I know what I want, I know what I need, I can’t let you do this, I can’t let this happen, I can’t let that happen," the 'Atlas' actress added.
Jennifer Lopez learned how to put herself ahead of her partners' needs
Jennifer Lopez eventually realized that she needed to improve her connection with herself, which was more significant than a romantic relationship.
She explained, "When it comes to love and relationships, what I’ve learned now is that the most important relationship is with myself. And it took me a long time to get to that place. But I finally feel that I understand that."
The songstress was done putting up with relationships that didn't work for her. Following the discovery, she asserted that she learned to prioritize herself before her partners' needs.
"Even when I felt bad about myself, I always tried to keep in my mind — I’m worth more than this, I’m better than this, I’m doing something that’s not right for myself," she said.
"You deserve better, all the things you have to tell yourself to get through a tough time."
As long as she felt more in tune with her desires and identity, Lopez said she didn't want to be in a relationship.
"It wasn’t anyone else’s fault, but I couldn’t be right in any relationship until I got more in touch with who I was, and what I needed and what I wanted," Lopez clarified.
"And getting to that place for me has been the real journey, the real task, where I realize that the main relationship I needed to have and the real love had to be with myself."
Jennifer Lopez's past failed relationships
Jennifer Lopez married producer and actor Ojai Noa in 1997, and they got divorced in less than a year.
Lopez married dancer Cris Judd in 2001 after meeting him on the set of her 'Love Don't Cost a Thing' video. It was her second brief marriage that ended in divorce. The pair separated in 2002 and finalized their divorce in 2003.
The 'Atlas' actress was married to her ex-husband Marc Anthony for 10 years, from 2004 to 2014. It was her longest marriage and he was her third husband.
Lopez wrote in her book 'True Love' that her life and marriage were perfect. However, she insisted that this was not the case.
At a point in her life when it seemed like she was succeeding at everything, she claims she was having marital problems, per Cheat Sheet.
Lopez got engaged to Alex Rodriguez following her divorce from Anthony, but the two never got married. Lopez and Affleck resumed their relationship shortly after their breakup. The pair eventually tied the knot in 2022.
