Jennifer Lopez says strained relationship with 'narcissistic’ mom led her to search for love as a child
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jennifer Lopez has shed some light on her childhood as she grew up with her parents, Guadalupe Rodríguez and David Lopez, and two sisters.
The singer was the middle child of her parents, with whom she reportedly did not share good relationships.
Jennifer Lopez says she ‘was always looking for’ love
In her new documentary, ‘The Greatest Love Story Never Told’, JLo said, “When I was growing up I was always looking for somebody to make me feel loved,” as per OK! Magazine.
The 54-year-old continued, “I was a middle child, not the baby, not the first born… you just kind of get lost a little bit in between it all."
“I felt very ignored by my dad because he was always working nights, then all day he would sleep. I didn’t feel like I had enough of a connection with him,” she added.
Jennifer Lopez did not like her mother while growing up
‘The Mother’ actress then went on to speak about her mother, whom she referred to as a “narcissistic, center of the attention, life of the party-type person.”
Jennifer had earlier slammed Guadalupe in her 2022 documentary, ‘Jennifer Lopez: Halftime'.
At the time, she said, “She wanted us to be independent and never have to rely on a man.”
“She did what she had to do to survive, and it made her strong, but it also made her tough. She beat the s--- out of us,” the pop icon added.
Jennifer Lopez’s movie includes many stars
This came after it was disclosed that many celebrities were approached to appear in JLo's ‘This Is Me…Now’ musical movie.
The big names reportedly included Taylor Swift, Vanessa Hudgens, Ariana Grande, Khloe Kardashian, Jason Momoa, Snoop Dogg, Jennifer Coolidge, and Lizzo.

But some stars who became part of the film were Post Malone, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Jenifer Lewis, Keke Palmer, and Kim Petras.
In the behind-the-scenes documentary of ‘The Greatest Love Story Never Told’, JLo reportedly said, “They were giving me a list of all these amazing people, and I was like, 'Yes, I like all of those people, but that's not what I want.'"
"My first people were Jenifer Lewis and Jane Fonda, and they were like, 'Wait, we don't get it. This is like music. This is young,’” she continued.
“And I was like, 'No. This is a council of people who I want to be very diverse. I want all different kinds of people,’” she stated, before adding, “These are people with all different personality traits from all different walks of life. But they all have something that affected me in some way — their philosophy on life, on love, on the universe, on music. That was the list that I made.”
