Sources close to Lopez revealed that while she was upset about the separation, she now feels it was a necessary step. "This has been one of the hardest years for Jennifer. She didn’t want to file for divorce. She just felt like she had no choice," a source shared with PEOPLE. 

Lopez listed April 26 as the date of their separation, following a summer spent largely apart from Affleck.

The source noted, "She knows she lives a privileged life in so many ways. She's very grateful for all the beautiful memories with Ben, but she's now focused on creating the best future for herself and her kids."

Recently, Lopez attended the Toronto International Film Festival to promote her upcoming film 'Unstoppable', produced by Affleck and Matt Damon. The couple has also been seen spending time together for the sake of their children.
