"She loves him, she will always love him, that's the problem," a source close to 'The Wedding Planner' actress told Page Six. "Ben has a darkness to him that no other person can fix. Jen Garner couldn't fix it, all the success in the world couldn't fix it," the source continued.

Jennifer Lopez hoped Ben Affleck would show up to her birthday

According to reports, Jennifer Lopez had hoped Ben Affleck would attend her 55th birthday celebration in the Hamptons with a Bridgerton theme, but he did not.

"She truly believed this was the greatest love story she’d ever known and she was finally getting her chance at the fairy tale," the insider claimed. The source added, "She just really didn’t stop to consider who the actual man was in the fairy tale."

Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce earlier this week

On the second anniversary of their 2022 wedding, the 'Marry Me' actress filed for divorce from the 'Argo' director earlier this week. Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's date of separation was stated in the divorce petition as April 26, although Lopez continued to pursue Ben even after he moved out of their $68 million Beverly Hills property.

"She gave this everything she had; her whole heart. She would have done anything to make this work," the insider reported.

"She opened herself up to criticism, ridicule and countless naysayers who told her this was a bad idea, that it was doomed, that there was a reason it didn’t work the first time," the source added. "But she didn’t want to believe it— she truly believed love would conquer all."

On Friday, August 23, Jennifer Lopez posted on social media for the first time since filing for divorce.

Instead of releasing brand-new music, the singer uploaded a previously taken selfie that she had shared on her Instagram Story, thanks to a fan account.

The ex-couple began dating in 2002 and soon got engaged following a mutual connection on the 'Gigli' film set.

But in 2004, right before they were about to tie the knot, they decided to call it quits. Both of them went on to marry other people. Lopez got married to Mac Anthony in 2004 and Affleck married Jennifer Garner in 2005.

Nevertheless, they reconciled after separating from their respective husbands. In 2021, they reignited their romance, and in July 2022, they got married in Las Vegas.

Another added, "It starts off making Ben the bad guy. By the end, it seems more her fault. She shared his private letters and messages with songwriters. JLo is clearly more like Kim Kardashian in having the spotlight on every aspect of her life. At least Kim K owns it."
