Jimmy Fallon recalls when Selena Gomez was 'almost killed' by 'Hot Ones' challenge
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Jimmy Fallon braved fiery wings on 'Hot Ones' once again, joining host Sean Evans on an October 31 episode that took him down memory lane—right back to a particular hot sauce incident involving Selena Gomez.
This latest appearance marks Fallon’s return to the spicy challenge, and he couldn’t help but recall a memorable night in 2019 when Evans brought the heat to 'The Tonight Show' and nearly overwhelmed Gomez with a taste of the infamous Da Bomb hot sauce.
Jimmy Fallon relives the Da Bomb sauce challenge that 'killed' Selena Gomez
“Oh no,” Jimmy Fallon said with immediate recognition after taking a bite of the scorching Da Bomb sauce, according to Parade.
“I remember this. This is the one that killed Selena Gomez. Do you know we almost killed Selena Gomez?” Fallon joked, sparking laughter from Evans, who replied, "I remember vividly."
Fallon vividly recounted the aftermath. “You almost killed an American treasure, Selena Gomez,” he teased, recalling how the singer left the stage and retreated to her dressing room in a state of fiery distress.
“Dude, she left and ran out. I went and knocked on her dressing room door. She was throwing up in her sink, and I go, ‘Selena,’ and she goes, ‘Get the f*** out’ with a devil voice.”
It wasn’t quite the graceful exit Fallon had anticipated. “I’ve never seen her like that," he admitted. "Spit was dripping out of her mouth, and I go, ‘I’m so sorry.' And we didn’t talk to each other for another three years.”
Laughing, Evans called it his “favorite 30 Rock memory, ever.”
Selena Gomez and Jimmy Fallon's struggle through fiery 'Hot Ones' in 2019
When Jimmy Fallon joined forces with 'Hot Ones' back in June 2019, Selena Gomez faced the heat firsthand.
Fallon introduced Gomez, who was new to 'Hot Ones', to the show's spicy challenge: “You eat spicy chicken wings that get hotter as you go, all while answering questions about yourself."
"I'm going to regret this," Gomez said as per NBC, eyeing the hot sauces. Host Sean Evans tried to reassure them: "There's no reason to be nervous... If it gets too spicy, you can always hit the milk."
The interview began with lighter sauces, as Fallon and Gomez answered questions about their careers.
But when they reached the infamous Da Bomb Beyond Insanity sauce, both quickly felt the intensity. Fallon told Gomez, “You’re crying,” as she gulped milk and exclaimed, "What the hell?!”
Evans encouraged them through the burn: “We’re just trying to survive this segment.”
By the time they reached the last wing, Evans explained that “the last dab” tradition involved adding a bit more sauce, though it was optional—an extra kick they’d never forget.
Selena Gomez faces the infamous Da Bomb
The unforgettable 'Tonight Show' episode had Selena Gomez facing the series of hot sauces with admirable persistence until Da Bomb Beyond Insanity sauce hit her system.
With eyes watering, she tried everything to cool off, from drinking milk to frantically licking the tablecloth.

“This is horrible!” she declared in between attempts to quench the burn.
Gomez recently appeared on 'The Tonight Show' in September alongside her 'Only Murders in the Building' co-stars, Steve Martin and Martin Short.
Looking glamorous in a Zuhair Murad ensemble, Gomez promoted the fourth season of the Emmy-nominated series, sharing the stage with her iconic co-stars.
